I'm testing just the CIS6 firewall module along side EAM and is working and running like a dream, still some work to do as we know but for the first public beta build this is very impressive :thumb:

Oh, I know exactly what it means. Take all those shields in Avast, for instance...

And let's be honest here, that's really what this little assault on your behalf is all about. Butt-hurt from comments I've made about that product in the past. It must have felt great to finally release all the pent up hostility over it. You can breathe out now...

And a product that tries to lump EVERYTHING all into 1 package... = bloat. I'm calling a square a square here. It was bad enough when they forced that sandbox most people didn't want into version 5. And provide no option to use just the modules you want in their product. Now everything but the kitchen sink is in there.

If that isn't bloat, I don't know what is. I didn't say it was heavy. Bloat doesn't have to be heavy, just... bloated. And a product that tries to do everything security related under the sun all in one package, is bloated personified.

LMFAO..........Avast's Shields are NOT bloat. You have no idea what bloat is. Bloat is adding needless features into a security product. Such as Bullguard adding a registry cleaner. Norton 360 and Kaspersky Pure are examples of bloat. Does ANYONE understand the true meaning of "bloat".

Comodo is just a pathetic company who keeps packing new features into there suite when the original ones from Version 3 are still there. Comodo Firewall 2.4 was awesome. After that it was all downhill.

Avast Behaviour blocker is just bloat. i mean it seats there doing what
exactly ? never seen a pop up or alert ever .

Guess you never fully tested it out cause it sure works for me. Its also a relatively new feature but Avast's web shields stop most malware anyways.

Actually from my personal experience of avast i would not consider it as bloat considering the excellent protection it provides.
Just my opinion anyway for what its worth.

Those shields ARE needless features. So how exactly am I wrong about this? Then again I guess one could make the point that real-time AV's period are needless features, so as not to single Avast out here. They simply possess the most needless features of all the needless AV's.

Neither are pathetic companies. At least most of the features in Comodo are useful. Even all of them, maybe. But some of us already have some of those areas covered by other means already (aka Sandboxie).

They are all security related.

As excellent as comodo is,it is primarily a file defender .av and firewall.
it sadly lacks any form of web defense and mail scanning which avast does and stops the malware at the first line of defense.
So no i would not consider avast as having needless protection shields.:cautious:

The last sentence in paragraph one says it all, regarding both products.

Thank you very much. This pretty much wraps up my case. Thanks for playing though...

Edit: Actually, the beginning of the next paragraph hits close to home too for Comodo 6. So it fits the criteria of both perceived, and actual bloat. lol

  13. This thread is getting bloated with posts about 'bloat.'

And after that burrito I had for dinner, I feel a little bloated too.

    That is all.

I can't agree with this part. In the past Comodo was made of bits and parts that were not really working together, but now in CIS6, they really work well together and it feels like a complete suite.

    I agree.

I tested it a lot against malware & few times for usability against safe programs.

I must say this version I find comfortable, easy & excellent protection suite for majority of users now.

Few changes needed which are proposed in the Comodo forum & I know at the time of the final release those changes will be there making it more user friendly.

there's still no evidences that the sandbox and the virtual kiosk work correctly.
judging by a couple of posts in this thread they do not.

until i have evidences that they do i will stay clear.

The new interface is beyond atrocious. I've never seen anything so convoluted in my life. It makes the previous version look like Panda AV.

The firewall won't work if you don't have the base filtering engine running, as it doesn't start the service automatically.

I got a bad pool caller bluescreen as well. :ouch:

Oh dear i think i will stick with 5.10 if its really that bad although it is still a beta product so give it time.:thumb:

I'm still with 5.5 and since I'm using just a firewall I really have no intentions upgrading to this v6, didn't even upgraded v5 series so I don't really see a reason to do that with this one, I think that firewall part wasn't changed since v3.
Using Comodo as a firewall and Sandboxie is a winning combo for me for over a year now :thumb:

With Sandboxie, Noscript, and Defense+, the webshielding is pretty much needless. With this combination, the website protection modules that come with avast, panda cloud, and even malwarebytes do one of two things: (1) alert me to a dangerous site (WOT can do this), or (2) never trigger. So how is this not bloat? It's a needless service, I don't even use WOT anymore.

Also, the use of a secure dns service such as Norton Secure DNS, Comodo DNS, etc. makes a webshield irrelevant.

Webshields can be a nuisance.Slowing down surfing etc.
Thats why i like using CIS because surfing is always fast and the suite is incredibly light.:thumb:

I disagree with all that say avast webshields are bloat. apparently you do not use craigslist or any other type websites that are loaded with malware. I also use noscipt and it passes right through it. avast webshield stops it cold.
as far as norton or comodo dns rather not give them the info. same with cloud based checkers. need to know and they do not need to know.
