Buy Rollback RX. Its saved my bacon from a failed Windows Update! Having a Super System Restore from the boot line has kept me in business. All you really need!

Why buy a program? You don't have to spend ANY sort of money on software to fully protect and or backup your pc. Rollback cannot save you from a hard drive failure. If anything purchase an external HDD and use Windows 7 Backup and Restore weekly.

I Agree,External HD device offline is the safest and probably the most reliable method there is.

    Gazzer,

Why do you want to backup the MBR?
Which part of the MBR are you concerned about?
How do you envisage the MBR backup being of help?

A disk image is all you need. Everyone keeps throwing all these programs out there.

I use MBRWizard Suite that I paid for. IMHO for what I paid and the ongoing yearly renewal it is a steal. You have everything you need in one place...or at least that is my take on this.

    Hope that helps?

I use MmbFix for backups/restores of MBR. It's a command line tool, but the advantage is you can schedule a command to run, for example, weekly, to make a backup of your MBR.

Bootice is my prefered tool for installing Win XP/7 MBR or grub on an external hard drive or USB stick that I want to make bootable.

EasyBCD is then the tool I use to add/delete/edit boot menu entries for Win 7 MBR's. (For XP or grub you can just use Notepad to edit boot.ini or menu.lst, respectively, for those boot entries).

All mentioned tools are free for personal use.

    Gazzer,

You haven't answered my questions. Mostly these apps aren't necessary.
