You're missing a bigger picture here. You were testing just AV. I was on the other hand executing stuff and what wasn't detected by the AV was later detected by the IDP. In 3 days of testing with samples from 3 different sources and the machine remained clean. So no, AVG is far from bad.

I agree 100%. Ever since adding the behavior blocker, AVG is far from the turd people make it out to be.

Agree. IDP makes a whole difference. It's a proper BB.

There are a few of us, myself included, that have used AVG off and on for years. I am running AVG concurrently with Webroot SecureAnywhere on my wife's system, along with MBAM Pro. I believe Firecat is also running AVG these days as well.

AVG's testing results kind of remind me of NASCAR driver Kasey Kahne; he hardly ever finishes first but he often finishes in the "Top 10"... :cautious:

I'm running AVG Free 2013 on 2 systems. I don't mind about home-made tests, cause on mine AVG has proven to be an excellent product.

Is anyone running AVG 2013 free version alongside Malwarebytes real time without conflict?

Sure, AVG is fine and good until it has a bug or problem. After that happens you can kiss it goodbye as you will never get support to fix the problem ala' AVG internet connection blocked thread in this same part of the forum.

I recently updated AVG Free to the latest build and it proceeded to say that the PC wasn't protected because the spam filter wasn't activated, and (of course) the spam filter requires a paid subscription. Today that error message has gone away and now it's complaining that the system needs to be "analyzed". Running the analyzer finds numerous registry errors, et cetera, and (of course) fixing them requires buying a subscription. Wanting to up-sell features is fine, but implying that the computer is actually "unprotected" because you haven't purchased a feature lowers this product to the level of scareware. Am I missing something? This is unprofessional and unacceptable.

There is also a registry analyzer icon in the GUI, I assume they want to sell more registry booster licences. :doubt:

I did also upgrade to latest build but can't report anything like that. It did froze after login a couple of times but I assume it was because of the 'remove ad banner' hack.

Yeah, I use AVG on and off, have been a longtime user since 2006. Generally I do use it, but in my experience they're a bit slow at fixing bugs and the like especially when they cannot reproduce it easily: so I generally switch to a backup (as of right now, PC Tools) while they're busy fixing it. Generally they do fix all my issues and I've never had a support problem with them. The protection has never been the best in tests but AVG has protected me pretty well in the real-world too.

It's a fair comparison with Kahne; you know AVG is good; what you don't know is whether it's the best. But for the money, you do get a good deal.

    A quick product update:

I am not having any problems (finally) with the newest release of AVG IS, 2013.2742, that was released on 10/23/2012. It looks to me like they have finally gotten most of the bugs out of the 2013 verion(s) of AVG....:)

Free version updates every 24 hours only. I have AVG on my sister's laptop and it's a 24 hour cycle. Though i've scheduled an updater myself a bit more frequently. 24 hour cycle just doesn't cut it anymore.

AVG 2013 seems less CPU hungry than Avast.

They seem about the same really. I find both of them quite light.

Depends what computer you are running. For quad core or core 2 duo, you may not notice any differences in CPU usage/speed because they will be negligent. For slower computers with single CPU, you may actually notice quite a bit of difference. In my case I found MSE and AVG being the two AVs with lowest CPU usage and fastest on my laptop.

I remember using AVG about 8 years ago or so. Now it's my first come back ever since version 7.5.
