You may like this review of Stella 6.3, a CentOS-based fork with some additional modifications, like repositories, programs and plugins, covering live session use, installation in a quadruple-boot setup on a laptop with SSD, 64-bit processor and Intel graphics card, and post-install usage, including overall usability, Wireless, Samba, NTFS access, multimedia playback - Flash and MP3, applications, package management, look & feel and some beautification, desktop effects, additional programs, stability, system resource usage, suspend & resume, printing to Windows, boot time, and more.

GNOME 2 has its place but I think that Pantheon/Gala with its elegant Mac OSX look, will be the default desktop of the future.

An OS should be simple, clean and transparent to the user. None of that eye candy bling or related "cloud" nonsense we hear so much about these days. Above all, it should not be a resource hog and boot fast.

Just lovely when you think about it. All you need and nothing more. The minimalism comes at a price - a desktop you can't right click on but you'll have to unlearn a bad habit and get work done underneath the shell where you can right click, move and remove folders and all such.

Its a radical departure from GNOME 3/Ubuntu Unity but it takes one to where the GNOME 2 project should have gone - keeping user usability in mind. More is not always less and less can often be more!

Good review on another GNOME 2 respin. Mrkvonic, keep up the good work!

    Cheers.
