Read his post in the Bitdefender 2013 I made. He has a crappy internet connection. The BD servers were having issues for about 48 hours. But that has been resolved. All he had to do was pause the auto update so it would not be using so much bandwidth then download the updates as a complete package. But instead of waiting for this issue to be fixed (which it has been) he uninstalled it for an inferior product.

I laugh at "uninstalled HMP" also. Everyone knows that HMP is fully portable and does not need to be installed.

How is K9 protection my friend? Is it strong and reliable? I was thinking of using it. Do you find any prob using it with EAM?

You're absolutely right. And that's where multiple portable scanners, online scanners and bootable disk scanners come into play.:)

Oh if that's the case then it's okay. I'm using a crap internet connection with very slow speed and low bandwidth myself and often face these probs of huge update downloads. I just thought he was removing Bitdefender because of some problem or heaviness. MSE is not crap. But I would not use it. I have better free options.;)
    Oh I couldn't agree more.:)

Hmm...okay I'll try it out. I was looking a parental control app for my niece. Maybe it'd be a good choice.:) And could Norton DNS be used with K9?

K9 is the best web filter.
    I recommended to all.
I do not use K9 with EAM because EAM had very good web filter.
You can read in my BLOG about K9 settings.
You can look at my video test on K9 vs malware links. KLIK

Maybe on default settings but I'm using just for:

    Phishing
    Spyware/Malware Sources
    Spyware Effects
    Suspicious

Sadly EAM has no parental filter.:( I'll give K9 a whirl. Thanks a lot D.:thumb:

Edit: Oh and how much ram does it eat? How many processes does it run? Any unusual CPU spikes? Does it slow down browsing?

I love K9 filter. It is a great web filter and parental controls are very comprehensive. If your using Hitman Pro for scans, it will show K9 as a redirect on scan results.

Just thinking out loud. My Emsisoft AM finishes at the end of the year. Definitely an excellent product. :thumb: :thumb: I got it last year during that $8 promo. But renewal is at least $26. And i'm not paying that.

With DefenseWall the ship's nice & tight. In my opinion DW only needs a good AV to make the setup perfecto.

So I dislike those pop up ad freebie AVs so I guess its gonna be something for $5 to $10. Thats give me a choice of BD, AVAST av pro, AVG av, bullguard av. I'm really only interested in the AV component. I just want to install & forget.

I'm on XP x86. Predict the future. What do you reckon will get the job when time comes due?

BD always has excellent discounts all time round. You can probably get it at $7. I know I'd go for BD next time I want to pay for an AV.:) Although I'm sure it's gonna be as light on xp as on win7 pcs as many reviews and user experiences suggest.

Windows Ultimate x32 lazy admin setup

    Firewall
Router with Google DNS and WFW setup two way

    Real time protection
    1. Threatgates containment
Disabled USB autoplay/execute USB through GPO, Added ACL deny "Traverse folder/execute" for everyone on Download, mail and media folder. Added Emet for browser, mail, mediaplayer.

    2. Internet Protection & Privacy
Chromium low rights (untrusted) sandboxes for rendering websites, javascript, flash and pdf. Bitdefender trafficlight as only extension (with chrome build in safe browsing). Chromium internet browser is started with --no-referrers switch with following privacy and content settings: Send a do not track request with your browsing traffic (new), Allow only session data, Block third party cookies, Block HTTP cookies (allow though icon).

    3. User Space protection
Hardened HKCU autorun entries through GPO, hardened Run and Run Once with regedit (removed "set value" permission for normal users). Set "Basic User" as default level, for all files, except Administrator. Added symantec Run MSI as Admin tweak. This prevents programs from elevating and executing in user directories, but allows to install with "Run As Admin" right click (after having removed the 1806 block).

    4. Admin Space protection
Set UAC to full, disable intelligent installer recognition, disabled unsigned programs to elevate. Chromium, 7-zip and VLC are unsigned, hence can't elevate to Admin.

    On demand scan check
HitmanPro free, Panda Cloudscanner free, Sysinternals (programs and autoruns) => only before monthly backup

    Backup/Imagine
Windows own image backup, Synctoy free for data backup
