They are different. CleverCache manages the memory cache generally making it smaller so more ram is available for applications. It's debatable whether or not there's value in doing this since Windows memory management is supposed to free memory from the cache as needed. My systems have a good amount of ram and I don't place enough load on it for the cache size to make any difference. I used the CleverCache trial for a while and didn't see any difference.

Process Lasso smooths multitasking by automatically restraining processes that hog the CPU and I do find it useful.

I ran Process Lasso and CleverCache at the same time without conflicts.

I assume you were not speaking of Process Lasso as snake oil, else I'd find it offensive.

Why? Process Lasso's automation functions are unquestionably useful. Such as the watchdog process rules, default priorities (CPU and I/O), default CPU affinities, default/application power profiles, Energy Saver, Anti-Sleep, etc... etc...

How can increased automated control of PC, power, and process settings be snake oil? Those are useful features, period.

Now, if you question ProBalance, well we have a graphical demo for that (or make your own with batch files). Sure, not *every* PC, software environment, and usage pattern will need ProBalance (though it is nice to have for emergency responsiveness issues), but Process Lasso is a lot more than ProBalance these days.

As for the other utilities, they are on their own. I will not comment for or against them, as a gentleman.

    Interoperability:

Process Lasso + CleverCache: No KNOWN problems.
Process Lasso + CleanMem: Conflicting, user-created, rules can cause problems. Trimming of virtual memory is *not normally* recommended (see Info about Virtual Memory).

Process Lasso acts *conservatively* in all cases. If it finds something else made a change, it aborts whatever it was doing. So, it plays as nice as it can with other software. I can not say the same for other software that may not have been around as long, etc...

    EDIT:
I've seen REAL snake oil. Snake oil that does NOTHING, has fake graphs even, and gets rebranded every other month to renew its reputation. Process Lasso has been Process Lasso for over a decade. Even if for some strange reason, despite evidence to the contrary, you do not believe in ProBalance, it has so many other features, well ... point made.

to be frank yes,i would consider this product and products like it as useless and totally un-needed.

It is essentially a "tweaking"(tampering).piece of software. If users did not insist on installing countless amounts of junk and crap then these tools would seriously not be required.

Why can we not just leave windows as it comes from the factory.
If these sort of tools were seriously needed then why does microsoft not bundle them with windows?

The whole spectrum of junkware and snakeoil is getting larger by the day and it really does not need to be advertised on this or any other forum.

No matter how you cut or twist this you are tampering with the operating system when using this stuff.

    That is all.
    Regards.:thumb:

In your opinion. Others, who need these features, and not to 'boost their PC', but for practical matters, would disagree. Perhaps a person wants to change power profiles when an application is opened, or just keep the PC from sleeping while that app is running. Perhaps they want to set default CPU affinities or I/O priorities. They would have a great use for Process Lasso. Energy Saver, likewise, is not built into Windows, but could be, and might be someday. There are lots of features not built into Windows that people do need. Call the other utilities what you want, but there is no justification for a snake oil claim on Process Lasso. You have not even evaluated it enough to know, you are just trolling. I doubt you've even installed it.

Over the years, countless third-party utilities and features have been bundled into Windows that weren't before. The absence of something from Windows does not mean that it has no place ever existing in Windows. That is what applications are for ;p.

As for advertising, I sure didn't create this thread. I would have said nothing but someone suddenly leaped up and defamed my software.

I guess he meant a certain program that claims to somehow "clean" memory and derives it's name from that.

But if not: ProcessLasso can't be what he referred to as "snake oil" (because I don't think he wants to make a complete fool of a very famous classical composer or wait .. did he just that minutes ago? :D) ... so relax, Jeremy. All is fine. - Great new PL beta version .41 btw., GUI feels "smooth" opening here"! :thumb:

And yes, at some point I did try all of the above mentioned programs in the past. - PL is the only one that survived here on Win7! ;)

Anyone that says PL (!) - and there isn't a software "like it"! - would be snakeoil has clearly no clue at all what he/she is talking about. That's obvious. No need to have sleepless nights about it. :D

p.s.: In my opinion Bach rulez, Beethoven sucks (pretty much, most of the time that is). :p

    Thanks guest and Victek123 :).

I'm glad you are liking the updates. I continue to work hard, and have great new things coming, as always. My #1 goal was keep Process Lasso relevant. And through automation and more multi-core features, I think I've done that - but I sure have a terrible product name ;p.

I'm outtie, before I say something stupid in the heat of the moment ... if I haven't already.

You are making the assumption that Windows "as it comes from the factory" actually functions optimally and cannot benefit from third party add-ons. If you're interested I can give you a number of examples of that not being the case even today with Windows 7 (and XP and Vista were significantly worse). The problems are still there even if people avoid the installation of "junk and crap". Regarding "advertizing" that implies the developers or users are creating threads specifically to sell the software. I don't see how that's the case in this thread, though you could ask the OP.

More generally I feel that Wilders is exactly the right place to discuss tools that claim to enhance Windows as there are people here willing to be objective and test the validity of the claims.

Please let me apologise for my abrupt observations.I have tried these sort of programs in the past and damn near bricked my computer.
Let me be honest here and say that no i havent tried it as ive made my assumptions purely on the posts within this forum.

I dont honestly feel i need this program but if some users get benefit from it then bravo to them.

LOL bach was indeed a great composer also.(Toccata in D minor)a favourite of mine.
    Best Wishes.:thumb:

Regarding CleverCache (CC) can you post your system specs - in particular the amount of installed ram - and say what adjustments CC is making? I'm still interested in this software and would like to see how it performs on different computers. If you could post a screenshot of the main CC window showing the ram graph that would make things clear.

    Code:
6.0.1.42	Fix	GUI	Further improved painting of memory load graph
Indeed, GUI is now even "smoother" opening in .42! :thumb:

I know that and that is the reason why I cannot WAIT to see the future of PL! :) - No, just kidding, no time pressure please!!! :D - But honestly, PL always amazes me somehow finding new ways to get even more out of it (felt performance of my system, new exciting things etc.).

Well, I like the cowboy feeling while domesticating "unruly" processes! :D

(There is one you could maybe take a look at some day: BSPlayer free.
That player is slowing down my system to finally a halt/crash after a while (only when watching long content, sort of building up the problem?), others have experienced this as well (never solved) and is strangely not doing it due to CPU-use or at least so it seems to me - which then could be solved by watchdog of course! - Just if you are out of ideas! :D)

To me it IS and I am sure it will be in the future if I stay with MS Windows. :)

And I want to suggest that you make it possible for us owners of (shameless cheap! :)) lifetime licenses to support you anyways voluntarily from time to time if we feel you deserve some additional money over all those years for your great and much more than only dedicated work! - Let me know if there is a way via for example Paypal that is not a monthly subscription and has not new licenses attached! - Just as a bonus for you. ;)

Enough off-topic for now. :D - I am glad that the OP is happy with his new software combination and that all other smoke has cleared and no slippery oil is on the street anymore. :D

I've used every product O&O has ever released. While I like most of them, you cannot make me believe that CleverCache does a thing. If anything it seems to slow things down a little. I have tried many versions over many OSes to come to that conclusion. If someone believes it helps, by all means use it but I would like to see ANY evidence that it improves anything.

Thanks again guest :). We are off topic here, don't want to get accused of advertising, but feel free to participate in the Bitsum Forums any time!

I too like the cowboy, I should go back to the cowboy logo I once used - picked out of some free clip art (attached if I can).

I will take a look at BSPlayer. I can likely identify any problem with it. Whether I can mitigate the problem, we won't know until the cause is known. I will put it on 'the list' though!

As for donating, that is very generous! You can always buy licenses you don't need, but I do have donation links on many of my freeware and open source projects. The ones that I turned into community projects I removed all financial donations from, but a few are still mine alone. For example, JunctionMaster. On that page is a Donate Now link. You can express in a note if the donation is for a different reason :).

    Thanks!

Done. :) - And no, I have to thank *YOU* for your great work in the past years! That was my point after all!* :D - All other things via email/bitsum forum, because we don't want to get punished for being off-topic, right. ;)

(*Just in case you didn't get my message via Paypal. ;))

Good night (from Germany) & best regards!

I can't remember how i heard about Process Lasso it may have been here, its around the time i installed it. Its one of the only pieces of software I've kept over the years, I'm beginning to think this machine would feel naked without it..

My thanks to the developer for all of the hard work..

CleverCache has a cool looking UI, but what is it actually showing in the screenshot? AFAICT it has reduced the size of the cache by 82 mb. On a system with 3 gigs of ram and a memory load of less than 1 gig does this cache reduction have any impact on performance? I think not. Things would be more interesting with a much higher memory load where there is contention/interaction between available ram, the cache, and virtual memory. It seems to me that's the situation where CleverCache might make a difference. It would be nice to see a "proof of concept" demonstrating how CleverCache handles the cache better than the existing Windows cache management. What problem is CleverCache actually solving?

And by the way, what does "live optimization of TU enabled" mean?

since CC installed, opening an app very quick and responsive even I open many apps.

there is two measures of TuneUp Live Optimization;increase response rate and speed up the start up of my programs I checked them both.

Neither of these programs will ever cause any damage. Sure, many registry cleaners and tweaking software can do just that, but these are safe to use.
