As I noted to Osaban, you may not see that page, depending on how you answered some questions. If you said you use other browsers, I think that triggers the question about what three things matter most to you in a browser.

only a very slight edge to Firefox from me, but that's only because of the thus far inimitable NoScript plugin. However, Firefox can't match Chrome's sandboxing. In Ubuntu I use Chrome without hesitation with it "apparmored"

Hopefully you shared these detailed opinions with the Google Chrome folks.

Oh yes, I sure did.

 

Didn't take the survey. Google doesn't need my input, they're doing just fine without it.

 

I've only used it on other people's computers when I was at their place. They were Win7 boxes. And I hardened it for them, utilizing the integrated sandbox/restrictions which I saw in a thread in here (I think it was Kees).

I think it's the ideal browser for Win7, personally. But on XP I think Firefox takes the cake as the best option.

I haven't used it enough to participate in that poll. But figured I'd give my impression based on my small sample size.

And to be fair, IE has improved as well. I still believe it's the 3'rd best option of the 3, but it's no longer a poor browser by any means.

 

I wonder how much there would be to gain from a 64-bit Chrome, considering how it divides each tab into its own process. It seems that RAM usage wouldn't be a reason, as no one process ever gets very large.

 

The benefits of 64bit browsing are complicated.

From a 64bit perspective you gain a much improved ASLR.

In terms of performance things get weird. There are some clear benefits (access to registers) and then some very unclear pitfalls (double the pointers is actually a potential issue for a browser that uses so many - an atypical usecase). Thankfully the x32 ABI for Linux addresses those pitfalls.

You would likely see marked gains of 30-50% based on what I've read about the x32 ABI, which would be similar gains to 64bit.

RAM usage/ the ability to address large amounts of data would likely do absolutely nothing. Chrome doesn't deal with files that large and no single process will ever use 4GB unless it is seriously misbehaving.

 

Thanks, just finished the survey. I like Firefox with NoScript better. But due to it's sandboxing feature I always recommend my friends and family to use Chrome. Chrome is much easier to use for the average user than Firefox with NoScript.

Also the day Iron updates as quickly as Chrome to fix security I might recommend it. The fact that it takes Iron sometime a week or 2 to fix security issues is a major issue in my book.

The one major issue, if you can really even call it that, for me is something I realize I neglected to provide feedback on. For me at least, Chrome does somewhat poorly with suggestions when you type a search term or lesser known address in the Omni Bar. I appreciate that it attempts to help, but I'd consider myself pretty good at spelling. I'd prefer if it didn't try to add an extra letter to a search term or a URL. Sometimes I end up with a search page of completely irrelevant results and have to manually edit the bar to get what I want.
