How is it doing with WSA?

I only run EAM on demand, therefore it doesn't start at boot, unlike WSA, which does.

All I can say is give it a try. ;) :D

P.S. I have yet to run a full scan in EAM. I think it would take hours for my configuation, i.e. multiple snapshots.

So why do you run turn off the file guard?

I just prefer to use for (on demand) scanning only, on anything I choose to download.

P.S. Vipre and WSA are running live.

I'm planning on adopting a similar regimen with Avira. I'm going to enable only the scheduler service for updates and use the context menu/shell integration to right-click and scan new downloads before recovering them from the sandbox.

This will give me a 2'nd opinion along with MBAM, and I won't have a real-time AV chewing on my HD. I was discussing this with another member in the AV section.

Food for thought for other people...

If I decide to run EAM or Avira as on-demand only are there still some services or processes started at each reboot or are they both truly on-demand only?

Well for Avira anyway you may want to allow the scheduler service to start automatically. This way you can get automatic updates. But none of the guards. This way you get the context menu (via right click), auto updates, but no real-time protection.

I'm going to have it update just once a day, overnight while I'm sleeping. I don't fish around on random sites much so zero days aren't much of a threat to me. Updates once a day is perfectly sufficient. And I know that using the scheduler to set up updates, you didn't get any ads, as opposed to turning auto updating on in the configuration. Not sure if that's changed though. Haven't used Avira in almost 2 years now. Then again there's a very easy way to thwart those adds with a HIPS and outbound FW anyway, or via SRP, so it never was a problem for me regardless.

Thanks for info luciddream! I will check if EAM is on demand only.

Since I scan my computer once a week, I don't need services running in background.
