A new feature, Vulnerability shield, allowing for detection and blocking of various vulnerabilities at the network level has been added to ESS v6. Particular vulnerability detections can be enabled/disabled in the IDS setup.

That's a welcomed added feature. I hope to see some more surprise goodies in the final release.

Is Vulnerability shield available in ESET NOD32 Antivirus in the final release too? or Only ESET Smart Security feature?
I'm just curious because Norton and Kaspersky provide Vulnerability Protection feature their Antivirus product line.
Moreover Norton provide IPS too. Anyway it is good news detection and blocking of various vulnerabilities at the network level.

I see so ESET NOD32 Antivirus does not have Vulnerability shield feature.
It's not a good decision because other security vendors provide this kind of feature their Antivirus product line too. Anyway I don't care now.

    Thanks for your quick response.

In ESS only as this pertains to detection of vulnerabilities at the network level by the firewall. Exploits are detected and blocked by scanners and you can find them listed in the history of updates. Unlike the vulnerability shield which is first supported in ESS v6, protection against exploits will be enhanced as well for users of older versions as well.

Network vulnerabilities are detected at the firewall level. Given that EAV does not contain firewall, it's not technically possible for EAV to detect them.

I know EAV does not contain firewall and the settings under IDS so I guess that maybe EAV will not have a network level vulnerability shield feature.
I just want to make sure because I'm just looking foward to this network inspection system in EAV too.

For example Symantec provides IPS(Intrusion prevention system) their Stand Alone Norton AntiVirus product line (of course, not contain firewall)
As you know IPS protects system from exploits that attempt to install malware via vulnerabilities in the operating system and in the applications at the network level.

Maybe I expect too much from ESET? Don't get me wrong I don't blame ESET.
The one thing for sure. It's good news network level vulnerability protection for ESS users. Of course I'm not one of them :)

    Thanks for your response.

    @manak

    FYI see this link here:http://go.eset.com/us/threat-center/threatsense-updates/search/?q=exploit

Highlighted in yellow is exploits such as the latest Java exploit etc etc...
Meaning that every ESET user is protected against them via VSD updates, including EAV users ;)

    Hi Marcos.

Can you provide more explanation on what "at the network level" means?

    Thanks.
