What to use?

Which one would give me optimum protection and ease of use?

1. AppGuard + Shadow Defender
2. AppGuard + Shadow Defender + Sandboxie
3. AppGuard
4. Shadow Defender + Sandboxie
5. Sandboxie
6. Shadow Defender + DefenseWall
7. DefenseWall

I've been down this road. Ended up with DefenseWall. I didn't overly like app guard. Those settings. Best to dedicate time to run each one. See if you still love them after 30 days trial first.

That said, I think you picked the top four in town to choose from.

 

No.4 for lightness, simplicity and effectiveness.

 

#5 Sandboxie and safe computing practices seem to be enough for me. You can run regular on-demand scans with HMP and MBAM (or other good o-d AV/AM), and have a secure system image ready to go if the scans ever find anything.

 

2 and 7, for pure overkill.

 

I would go with number 5

 

If you're anything like me, an error-prone bumbling amatuer enthusiast rather than like most here, professionals in security, one way or another, I would opt for option 8 1/2. I have myself. And that is any combo or stand alone from choices 1-4 plus an AV-AM. I'm a coward. O.K.?

 

Optimum Protection: Shadow Defender + Sandboxie + AppGuard/DefenseWall
Ease of Use: Sandboxie

 

I would use:

AppGuard + Sandboxie + firewall
or
DefenseWall PF (i.e. DW Personal Firewall) + Sandboxie

both choices with or without any free av.

Defensewall is pretty power ful yet easy to use.
Shadowdefender has proven itself to be effective in keeping a system free of changes.
Both are very easy to use and both are powerful enough to keep your system clean.
As much as I love sandboxie and appguard, both need some configuration to run smoothly.

Shadow defender is abandonware and it has been bypassed several times:

I would change it for Deep Freeze which protects also the MBR since the version 7 was release.

 

Sandboxie.
Nothing else offers the same level of protection and ease of use.

 

Any one of those would give excellent protection, I personally prefer and use #6

 

If I was you, I would pick #5, I know it works for me on its own but if you want to run something along, I recommend you pick an antivirus of your preference instead of any of the other programs that you listed.

The reasons: Shadow Defender is old, not updated in a long time and the tell tale signs that it can not be trusted anymore abound. If you want to use something like that, I think Toolwiz TimeFreeze would do better for you. I am using it on my W7. I dont use it for security but others here do and are very pleased. AppGuard, a program that I have never tried, its probably a very nice program but to make it work with SBIE, you ll need to water down its protection to make them compatible. That is something that I wouldn't do if I wanted AppGuard on top shape when its really needed. DefenseWall, is great but I know by experience that if you are using SBIE, DW is not necessary as nothing gets through Sandboxie. I never saw any suspicious file in Rollback when using both programs together. If there ever was one, it got deleted by SBIE when closing, deleting the sandbox.
