Avira doing very well.

 

BullGuard, F-Secure, Symantec, perfect score in the "Real-World Testing".

 

In July yes, but they had ZERO FP's in the August test

 

I am pleased with the results of both ESET and Webroot.
Though I am still wating on the day that ESET will show similar results in tests made by AV-Test, as they do in the tests made by AV-Comparatives.

 

Eset really lags in 0 day protection.

 

Yes one thing I would like ESET to do is to move towards "streaming updates" and release smaller updates and more often 24/7, instead of 3-4 big updates each day as they currently do.

 

Kaspersky is really standing out. Followed by BitDefender and its clones. And then AVIRA and avast! are also up there. Too bad AVG 2013 wasn't tested...

 

Supposedly some malware authors test their product against the Kaspersky software.

Is there any malware 'out there' that can evade Kaspersky and that poses a real threat ?

 

Zone alarm antivirus + firewall free did a awesome job too

96-97 in zero day and

98-99% in 2-3 month old

100% on wildspread is not bad i guess

 

It uses the Kaspersky engine so a high score at malware detection would be expected.

 

I see they are still testing it all on Windows XP. I am on Windows 8 x64 at this point and have not used XP in 5 years. I would really like to see something more up to date. I know a lot of people are still using XP but I expect the majority of them are not the type of user that ever sees tests like these.

 

I think every other certificiation is done on Windows 7.

 

No surprises with Kaspersky & BitDefender doing well. Zone Alarm's scores are pretty interesting.

The 3 companies above are the only real stand outs from this round of testing.

Got Zone Alarm free AV + firewall running on a relatives PC and they have no complaints in regards to ease of use.

Where did you get FP's are up for Webroot? It shows 32 FP's in July, and 0 FP's for August.

 

Eset once again scores low. My 8 Eset License expire in March. Maybe I will be switching to someone else. I can only wait for so long for them to improve. It would be a start for them just to admit they have weak areas that need improvement. First step to fixing a problem is to admit a problem exist. Denial will only prevent progress.

 

U won't be renewing? I actually have a 3 year / 3 PC license gifted by Eset to me for showing them a security flaw on their site, but I am not even using my license and have avast Free antivirus installed instead! which is light years better IMHO, better detection rates, auto sandbox feature for suspicious files, good system resources, browser integration to display good or bad sites in links, FREE!

 

Yes. They didn't get a perfect score in the real-world test which is the most important test. So clearly where it matters, they fall short.

 

Real-world test is all that matters.

I think they are talking about the first test under the protection results category. It says "Real World Testing" in parentheses after the description. BullGuard, F-Secure, and Symantec are the only products that attained a score of 100 on that one measure.

 

That's not quite what I meant.

Their 'real-world' score in this test is almost perfect.

As the story goes, some malware authors test and write their products to evade detection by Kaspersky. Supposedly, some source code was leaked/stolen years ago.
Does THAT particular type of malware exist in any substantial numbers, is it effective and does it pose a real threat ?
It makes sense to try to avoid detection by a major AV vendor just like it makes sense to target the most widely used OS, browser and PDF reader.
