I've noticed I have a random file in my Program Files folder. It is name AVAST and it's file type is just "file". It's about 6.3MB. Anyone know what it is?

Try going to uninstall the program, and select Repair.

For sure you're having trouble with installing avast.
I suggest an installation from scratch:

    1. Download the latest version of avast! Uninstall Utility and save it.
    2. Download the latest avast! version and save it.
    3. (Optional) If you want, save your avast! settings for later restoration (Settings > Maintenance > Back up).
    4. Uninstall avast from Control Panel (if possible). If, for any reason, you can't run it, try booting in Safe Mode and doing it from there. Anyway, boot after that.
    5. Run the avast! Uninstall Utility saved on 1 in Safe Mode. Boot after you've run it. Repeat this for any major avast! version you have ever installed/upgraded in your computer.
    6. Install avast! using the setup saved on 2. Boot.
    7. Register your free copy or add the license key for Pro. Or even upgrade your key from old versions.
    8. Check and post the results. If, for any reason, you did not solve, try doing the step 3 in Safe Mode anyway.

Meantime of what? I mean, there are 161+ million users without this problem out there... How can avast! team work on it without further test and debugging?

I have two questions about avast!

    1. Is there any way to set real time exclusions for programs or processes?

    2. Is there any way (inside or outside the application) to submit missed viruses?

    Thanks!

    1.Open up Avast,Real-Time shields,File System Shield,Expert Settings,Exclusions
2.Read here http://support.avast.com/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=501 .Briefly,if you suspect a file to be malicious, add it to Avast's Virus Chest and submit it.

    Thanks, JoeBlack40 for the help!

I'm loving avast! right now. The detection rate is very good. Hope it keeps impressing me like that.

I have always liked Avast, and have the Pro7 on my laptop. I removed it from my desktop.

The sandbox gave me problems on both machines, and none of my 3 browsers would work without problems. However, I like the fact that I can browse from within the SafeZone when away from home and having to use an unsecured WIFI.

I hope they fix the sandbox problem, but they seem at a loss.

I'm not impressed with all the bells and whistles (especially the poor sandbox) but maybe I'll reinstall it to figure out what's the problem with the crippled scan window ... :doubt: :)

Why do you call it poor?
Are you referring to the autosandbox (on access) or the sandbox (on demand)?

Sounds to me like Avast left a bad taste in his mouth. Replaced it immediately with MSE and did not even try to rectify his problem.

    Because of 'false positives' ...

Not at all, I had no problems with version 6.0 but I was in a hurry ... :doubt:

When will the version 8 beta start?

It takes just as much time to re-install Avast as it does to install MSE.
