Is the rescue procedures repeatable?

HD Toshiba MK1625GSX has failed to boot.
I want to save the OS on this HD.
Say that I have completed the procedures of the rescue and somehow failed,
what has happened to the already failed HD Toshiba MK1625GSX?
Is the original OS and files still on the failed HD as they were before the rescue?
Is the rescue process repeatable?

If I understand you correctly, you will have made an image of your HD and then if you have a failed restore you want to know if the original files and folders are still present.

Short answer is maybe but probably not. One of the first things that is done when doing a restore is deleting the existing partition and then restoring the data from the image. If the process fails after the partition is deleted then you will have nothing but unallocated space showing most likely. If the restore process didn't write any data before it failed then a specialized data recovery program may bring it back.

If you have a failed disk it is risky to assume that the restore process will work and for that matter, if you plan on making the image now it may not be good if you can make it all.

Do you know why it has "failed to boot"? If it is a HD failure then you are safer to try and restore to a new HD and leave the old one alone.

No, I don't. The netbook often crashed recently. I ran the eRecovery and it crashed during the eRecovery process. Tried it again and again and finally completed the recovery procedures.
Then installed a couple of applications.
Restarted the machine. A message said that the hal.dll had been missing or corrupted. At this point, the Alt+F10 function failed. F12 and F8 keys were still functional. Tried F8 key and made a few attempts, then, the netbook went to network boot at the start. To this point, none of the function-keys was functional. Under boot in BIOS, the HD with its complete ID number was showing. BIOS recognized the HD but somehow the HD won't boot.

Checked the HD three times with HD Tune and HDD Regenerator, spending one hour each time, found nothing wrong of the physical sectors. And checked with Western Digital Data LifeGuard Diagnostics - WinDlg (DLGDIAG for Windows), "PASS" showed in the result of every test.
It seems that there is nothing wrong with the physical disk of the HD.

Had the HD connected to a desktop machine and the whole HD showed as one partition of RAW.

That's all I know so far, but I don't know why it failed.

Any ideas, please?

 

If you were looking at the HD on the desktop using Windows Disk Management, try assigning a drive letter to one of the partitions. It may then show the drive as formatted, etc.

 

Best I can recommend is to try a data recovery software, http://www.piriform.com/recuva or http://www.recovermyfiles.com/,

If we can't see it within Windows we can't back it up to do anything with it, currently you will be lucky to pull data from it, if the drive is truly dead.
