I like it, more resources is always a good thing. :thumb:

But industry consolidation, reduced competition, and further concentration of information in the hands of a few is not.

Maybe this is a step to a Google AV.
    That would be interesting.

Maybe Google will filter all search results through VirusTotal effectually removing most dangerous links or access to dangerous sites. Its kind of interesting because they are a DNS provider and in my area; an ISP too.

I think its a very good thing. It would be great if they integrated it into either google DNS or in some new cloud based scanner added into chrome.

It's quite possible they'll use it with Google Drive, Google Mail and GooglePlay. Places where file security matters a lot.

    From the VirusTotal About page:
Perhaps Google already had access to the database and is already using it?

  22. I like it too. Say what you will about google but they have improved the internet 10 fold.

I'm waiting for a fully ready ChromeoS in the next 10 years based on linux to challenge Microsoft

In case I wasn't the only one who snoozed through this. From http://blog.virustotal.com/2011/12/moving-to-google-app-engine.html:
    www.virustotal.com CNAME ghs-svc-https-c46.ghs-ssl.googlehosted.com

That and Google being a "long-time partner" of VirusTotal may mean the privacy situation won't be changing very much. Hash lookups via anonymous proxies (if not using a browser configured to use Google Safe Browsing Lookup API).

That's right. In my view, Google is the Evil Empire.
