Okay but can you give me examples of apps not listed in settings yet fully compatible with sbie? Because I've found none so far.

I knew it, I knew you were going to ask. ;)

    WinRar
    Foxit
    Wondershare TimeFreeze
    Toolwiz TimeFreeze
    KMPlayer

All of the listed programs work very well in my computers and none is listed in applications anywhere.

Yeah I've had that problem. But that was 2 years ago. AVG just would not uninstall. I've experienced the same thing with SUPERAntiSpyware a week ago. Specific uninstallers/cleaners provided by vendors always works.

Did you try any uninstallers/removers provided by AVG? I am sure there is something in their website or forum that would remove AVG smoothly.

Because it searches for "antivir" in the registry key names and your AV happens to have those letters as well. :p Thats by accident, not by design, it found those.

    Slightly OT:
Don't know about AVG, but IMO AVAST! behaves like spyware. I've uninstalled their software on my wife's pc but I'm not permitted to change the search preferences in internet explorer, which has defaulted to Avast! Safe Search or something. I've looked for solutions on the web but none of them work.

Avira Free also has issues, not so obvious but still a nag - Even if I choose not to install their anti rootkit utility, the corresponding antirootkit *.dll (don't remember the name) is still installed AND loaded at boot.

I'm inclined to try out Kaspersky's Antivirus Utility for on demand scanning purpose, and as far as I know it doesn't (?) need to be installed & doesn't leave any strange traces inside the system.

Although I've not experienced that problem with Avast! I have certainly faced the Avira prob. And many more apps creates these kinds of probs. That's why I nowadays keep a fresh clean image before installing an AV or any other app. Or if I forget, I look for uninstaller/cleaner for that app from it's developing team.

Foxit, KMPlayer and WinRar are always run in a sandbox except when updating.

The TimeFreeze programs are not run sandboxed but when you run a program sandboxed and you are using TimeFreeze, everything works perfect.

Here, a few more programs that I have that run perfectly sandboxed and there is no setting: Libre Office, Windows Media Player and Microsoft Office.

Some programs that I don't use and, not listed either: Outpost, Private Firewall, Returnil, SAS and MBAM.

It's a good advice. While I aknowledge that antivirus software needs to tentacle its way deep into the system in order to be effective, I certainly do not approve *.dll planting behind my back when I explicitly chose not to use the particular service. It bothers me, and in spite of Avira's excellent detection rates, I'm considering ditching their software.

I think Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool fits my needs :

    Quote
    * The program is launched without installation.
    * To remove the program, you now have to close the main program window

    Ah okay thanks. :)

Does MBAM's website blocking protection work in a sandboxed browser?

Okay I've installed WSA-A in my pc instead of WSA-E sacrificing only the Web Threat Shield as that component wouldn't work in a sandboxed browser. I think it's more bearable now.:)

I have never used MBAM real time but I don't recall anyone complaining about a problem with SBIE so it is likely they get along well.

I don't have an answer/opinion on the first question.
As for still needing HMP if you run MBAM Pro, I'd say yes, to serve as it was intended to serve, as a 2nd opinion scanner. ;)
