thoughts on nitro pdf pro 7

anyone use it and how well does it work, how is it on resources etc..i have a few clients who hate adobe and want a great alternative. we tried pdfxchange on one of their machines and they hated the interface and it also used a ridiculous amount of resources. even when set to the min setting when a large pdf was opened i saw usage of over 500+mb for just the one pdf. it got scary when they opened multiple ones.

they have been researching some others and asked me about nitro which i have some experience with he reader but not the pro version since a couple versions ago.

so how is version 7 specifically the newest update? who uses it and how well does it work? resource hungry etc. i can set them up with the free trial but they are very picky about installing all kinds of software only to remove it. ialmost have them convinced to allow meto backit up install it and then if they dont like it we can simply restore a backup they are one of those clients that think they know everything there is to know but really know how to turn it on and open files not much more but they are stubborn. i hate to describe it that way but its what im dealing with. they also considered nuance since they can buy it at staples i guess but seem to prefer nitro when looking at the interface and the nitro web site.

Okay, I used to be a long time foxit fan,until recently used I stopped using it as it was taking too long to open even a small file, long story short I started trialling Nitro PDF Pro 7 on WIN 7 X64 and was so impressed by it that finally decided to buy the pro version,it meets all my PDF requirements quite nicely.

Although I am not sure what you are needs are,but I would highly recommend it as a great alternative to adobe and foxit.

Oh and to mitigate your concerns about high memory usage,it uses about 40 megs of memory under sandboxie for a PDF of size around 200 mb.

 

Im using the Pro version for about 5 months now. I can't say much. Fast, doing it's job. I like the converter, converted some pdfs to word.

 

trying it out, so far the only thing i can say is i dont like how it adds things to windows like new options on the explorer menu's without asking during install and it seems to install itself everywhere otherwise i really like it. it does not render as well as either foxit or pdfxchange though. when setting it ti fit width or zooming in pictures get very pixelated. i also tested with a really large magazine color pdf that i set to fit width and nitro used around 80mb where with the same file set the same way pdfxchange used over 1gb of memory?? wow..... and foxit worked okay also to view it and used around 103mb for the same file which is good. i have searched in the preferences of nitro to turn off the explorer menus and anything else it added but i could not see an option to do that. honestly if i could figure out how to either install it without that stuff or turn it off easily without having to edit the registry since i will not to do that each time it updates and they call me and tell me those things are there again.

 

Pro user here since version 4, it does what it said.

If you want something else, try Wondershare PDF Editor. I don't think there is any PDF editor that is light weight. Try PDFComplete or Docudesk
