I have a question i have this Active disk image software. If i want to make a complete copy of my C drive so if my system crashes i just load up the image and make it like nothing ever happened, do i choose Backup Disk Image (occupied clusters only)? Also if my system does crash how do i load the image? I would be saving the image to an external hard drive. Thank you.

Hi Aladdin. How did you manage to do that? I bought version 4 on March 2011 and on November 2011 they ask me to pay $41 instead of $58 to upgrade to version 5.

What kind of trash policy is that? Its like pay them $90 just for 6 months early buy. Their upgrade email upset me a lot.

I mean WTF I paid on March $49 (including tax) and on November they ask me to pay another $41?

Is this reliable? And above all they advertise me that I save $17 with the new upgrade... Thanks guys but I will pass this huge discount. Poor upgrade policy.

A fair upgrade policy would be to pay only the difference between V.5 standard edition and V.5 professional edition if I wanted to use the extra features like GPT support. How could I know on March 2011 that a new version will launch on November? There was no indication at the time of purchase. If I only knew that a new version was expected soon, I would use the free version for 6 months and then buy the V.5 pro.

And this is an expensive software. Who pays $50 for a software that will be old in 6 months? Shouldn't they at least give me an indication before purchasing?

Mike21, your argument is extremely weak. You make it sound like the old software magically stops working for you as soon as the new one comes out.

Face reality, new versions comes up all the time and most companies (not all) have a 30 days complimentary upgrade policy. It is ridiculous to think that you're entitled to something for up to 6 months.

    Dear Mike21,

My was a special case. Macrium Reflect doesn't have major upgrades every year like so many companies do. Neither they have a 30 days upgrade policy. Their policy is to provide major upgrade if the software was bought within four months of release.

I bought the family package v4 and had problems with it. I posted in their forum and Nick responded and couldn't solve my problem. So, I was assigned someone to work with me in emails. The guy tried for four months and still couldn't solve my problem. In this period the major upgrade v5 came and I was not eligible as by now five months have passed.

He suggested that I should upgrade to v5 and it should solve my problem and it will work properly with my SSDs. I told him that I just paid $100 and to pay another $60 is too steep. I suggested to split it into half. He told me that the person who made this decision is on leave. I chased him for three months and still no joy.

Raza on this forum recently made a comment that Nick is the CEO of the company and personally responds to each email by the customer. I wasn't aware that Nick is the Big Guy, so I emailed him and go a negative computerized response. I emailed him again and asking him for a personal response and after reviewing my case, he approved free upgrade to v5.

I bought v4 and couldn't use and I was using the FREE v5, until recently my upgrade to PAID v5 was approved.

Basically, I paid for v4 and was not able to use it for almost year and half, until I was upgraded to v5.

    Best regards,

    Hi Aladdin.

Like you, I bought v.4 and had problem with it. At that time with a new PC, I bought a SSD for the operating system and 2 internal HDD, one and a half terabyte each, i.e. 3 TB in raid 0 configuration, used mainly for storage and backups of the operating system.

Maybe my mistake was that I didn't investigate macrium reflect capabilities back then, but being overwhelmed by the reviews, especially in this forum, I proceeded purchasing, just to find out that I couldn't use any of my internal HDDs (bought for backup) as a backup probably because they are GPT disks.

So I end up with a week's backups impossible to be restored, as when I tried a restoration my HDDs were invisible by v.4.

I even posted on their forums as a paid customer with no luck, as I was instructed to use the reflectDC in order to create a new Rescue CD, but all this made no difference. V.4 was unable to see my week's backups and I ended up uninstalling macrium reflect and seek another commercial solution that would "see" my (future) backups in the GPT disks.

Its not that I complain as MarcP stating below (why I would I do it now and not at the proper timing anyway?), its simply that I yesterday read your post with you being at a situation similar to mine.

The paid software never worked for me. Its not that v.4 magically stopped working after launching of v.5 with GPT support, or that I wanted those fancy new features, it never worked for the purpose that I bought it.
