11 processes?! I've got 12 just from svchosts! Also 2 from AppGuard, 2 from Avast!, 4 from AMD's drivers and Catalyst Control Center.

That's why I'm skeptical it may be a lucid dream. :)

Giving "Comodo Internet Security Pro" a look using some of the settings of Chiron from Gizmo's Freeware articles. It is certainly light and I know the firewall is good.:) Slow weekend!

Only thing I don't like about Time Freeze is it gives you about 4 GB of cache space and when that eventually gets close to being filled up you have to reboot ... might be a day or 2 ... depends on how you use your computer. I use Shadow Defender and they must use a different algorithm because I can go a week or 2 without even coming close to needing to reboot because the cache is getting full ... I've never seen SD's cache use more than 1 GB. The company produces that and another program (BHORM) on their web site that uses your System Restore file to return your system to a prior state every time you reboot. I used both for awhile but prefer SD at the moment. Before, I liked Deepfreeze but now they seem to have gone to a pay each year model for paying for the use of their program(s). Main reason I preferred Deepfreeze was once the program was installed little or nothing was written to your disk so month after month you should have the same space usage on the partitians protected. I've also used Comodo Time Machine and RX Rollback and although they are convenient when working properly, if something goes wrong you'll lose everything on that partitian and have to restore from a backup. Also harder to perform defrag as you have to uninstall and therefore lose all your restore points to periodically defrag. Problems with those 2 on several occasions on different computers so I gave up on those for now. Very satisfied with SD. If a program requires reboot to be installed I use a program that makes a "snapshot" of system before and then after installation and running application at least once to feel more secure I can get the program and its remnants off my computer if I have driver problems or change my mind. Mainly SD and Sandboxie (paid) periodically run Malwarebytes Anti-malware, Avira, or Emsisoft Antimalware. Avira and Emsisoft don't require reboot so I can check my system while running SD until next reboot a week or 2 later.

Yep, the new version 1.9.3 is just released and you can set the cache size now :thumb: .

    What's New in This Release:

    · Added support to set the cache size
    · Allows not to always show toolbar on the most top
    · Allows not to show the warning when cache is used out
    · Fixed several minor bugs

It's no dream... it's reality. Keep in mind I'm not counting Task Manager or System Idle Process. The former only runs when you look at it that way, and the latter is the lack of processes, not one. Anyway I'm looking at mine with Comodo and neither of those show up.

I have only 10 system services running. And only 2 instances of svchost. 1 thing on automatic startup (cpf.exe)... Comodo FW.

I've learned how to trim this OS down and take "only what you need to survive"... no industrial strength hair dryers here. And I will do the same with the next OS when I upgrade. I know you can't scale things back as much on them though. When you have a box with 1 GB of RAM, are too cheap/stubborn to upgrade until forced to, and demand a safe & snappy setup... you learn to be resourceful.

I could even disable Windows Firewall/ICS and free up more resources, have 1 less service & process running, if I wanted to. But that little padlock symbol over my network and seeing the word "firewalled" just creates a nice placebo for me : )

I don't see how you can have so few things running. Even after doing BlackViper's Tweaked list I still have 39 processes, of course his list is services not processes.

Here you go: Keep in mind Irfanview (i_view32) was used to take the screenshot. Axe taskmgr as well (which normally isn't running), and the System Idle Process (which isn't really a process)... and you've got 11.

We are talking XP here, not 7, right? 39 processes on XP being the least you can get it down to = absurd. We can't be on the same page here...

Black Viper was a nice starting point of reference, but I got so far ahead of that. I found out what every service on XP does and whether they're essential to me or not. If it's not absolutely necessary for the stability or security of my setup, it's not there. The only exception being Windows Firewall/ICS for reasons stated.

Even take note of the bare bones background. That's how hardcore I am, lol. When I close full screen apps it must cut at least 1 tenth of a second off. Hey... that adds up.

Windows 7 Pro x64 is what I have. I would love to be able to get my system that light, not that my computer is taxed right now.
