Since Rollback and ShadowProtect don't work on Win8 yet, I tried Easeus Backup Workstation 4.5.

Has both Image Backup and Instant System Recovery. AND...no activation problems as in the others.

Thanks for the info! I will definitely try it. Ever since the original legendary FirstdefenseISR was discontinued I have been looking for a reliable snapshot software. Rollback RX, or any of the other brands of the Rollback engine, never worked on my systems nor did Farstone.

Less than a year ago, I bought EaseUS Backup Workstation 2.0, it basically messed up my system. Had to reformat my system.

Then got an email to pay more money for upgrade to v3. Within few more months v4, another upgrade and more money.

Worst program out there, even for imaging, forget for snapshot.

    Best regards,

Well this trial was quick :/ Installed it and was about to check out the snapshot feature since that is what I am looking for, but you have to buy the software to see if you like or trust it or too see if it even is compatible with your setup

Well, a bit disappointed I decided at least to try how reliable the backups are since I took the trouble to uninstall Macrium and install this, if it can be compared to software like Macrium Reflect, Shadow Protect and Image for windows against their rock solid reliability when restoring.
So I started to do a system backup but got the response: "This type of partition or disk where operating system exists is not supported" I have no clue what this means? Does it mean that it cant do a backup of a SSD drive? I dont have any extra partitions in the drive. Not very awe-inspiring imo. so I made a restore from the differential image I took with macrium prior to installing this product.

    Anyone got this software working?
Is it a Rollback RX type of snapshots (ie blazing fast and small snapshots) maybe same rollback RX enginge? or more robust like FDISR? (if you know what that was) or is it something new that differs from those two concepts?
How long does it take to make a snapshot? In rollback RX it took about 5-10 seconds if I remember correctly.
    Can you backup snapshots?
Has any restore of the system failed? (out of how many restores?)

On trust I bought it too, as there was no trial available for the snapshot technology. One wonders why?

Yes, their imaging software is full of cryptic messages like their snapshot technology. And, as you found out it is unrealizable.

No it is not like Rollback Rx, it is more like Farstone Restore IT, but in comparison to Farstone Restore IT, it is still in its infancy.

Yes, I had nightmares with failed restoration. It changed my 63 default sectors to 19 sectors. I had to finally reformat my system, as even images from IFW didn't save me.

Couldn't get the default 63 sectors back and then couldn't use their snapshot technology anymore as it required the default 63 sectors. Chicken and egg!

    Best regards,

The snapshot is as fast or faster than RollbackRx. Small snapshots as in Rollback. Much less disk space required than FDISR.

I had no trouble restoring the system to two SSD's in RAID 0 from an external eSata drive. I haven't tried a USB 3.0 restore yet, but the program sees the drives. The backup is as fast as ShadowProtect. The verify is slower than shadowprotect, although it does an image verify when it backs up.

I have been using ShadowProtect and RollbackRx for over 5 years, but have been frustrated many times with their activation policies. For me, this is a great replacement on Win 8 until I see the updated versions of both of these programs to see if they have fixed their draconian activation policies.

My snapshots took 16GB. Are you sure?

    Where are your snapshots located?

Can you move your snapshots from the system drive?

    Best regards,

Thanks silver006. Sounds really good. To bad Easeus is not compatible with my setup.. I feel with you with the activation policies, that's why I stopped paying and using Shadow protect my self. Rollback RX I used for 3 months and was really impressed, until one day when it decided not too keep my snapshots after a reboot and reverted to the baseline without a warning. That was back in 2008 I think. Nowadays it wont work when I install it (to see how/or if it have evolved since I last tried it)

BEWARE when doing a restore it may change the drive layout and cluster sizes etc.. as well as being very unreliable at times i have found even up till v4.6 and yes i own it that after a restore chkdsk will find a number of errors that need to be fixed etc... and dont get me started on its snapshots. i have many clients who were using it on their own choice and after some actually not being able to even restore their images have moved on including myself and i own the server version as well as the workstation one.

    Hey,

Not to sound rude but who goes to find a replacement for Rollback Rx?:doubt: I have used Easeus previously wow was I disappointed with it.It is just too messy as told by aladdin and now that I remember it is not as fast as Rollback Rx.As for the activation issue, yea I had it too but it was resolved quick just ask for reset from the support of the provider I think it was horizon something(might want to google that). But I remember seeing that it was resolved too, something about making sure you delete the 'Shield' folder right after uninstallation(yea the uninstallation does not remove the folder-seems protected or something:doubt: but a utility called unlocker fixes it)This was also mentioned in one of the forums here.

And Aladdin I am looking for Rollback Rx v.10 something about it being able to extract the snapshots to an imaging software in the event of physical hd failure:D and some more add-on. I guess we will have to wait and see...

    Cheers,

    Harvey

Also bad experience with EaseUS back up. I used the free version and several times it wouldn't restore my image.

Why did you give up FDISR?

Rollback RX um have four licenses now but it has never been bullet proof - see the v10 release is moved to Jan - so glad I skipped that this time

FDISR does work on windows 8 /SSD. I have been having problems with Storage craft (support don't seem to reply) - at the moment I'm using Paragon with FDISR.
