    An update
Another email received from Tony tonight

    not verbatim again

    Tony tells me that
He was the one to start the Shadow Defender blog.
    His name is Yang Ping.
The next version of Shadow Defender will support Windows 8.

    best wishes

Even though I would be happier with more information, if this is Tony, then I don't want to be "interrogative" to the point of rudeness. If he has had some personal problems that kept him from communicating or from maintaining his role as "support", I'm willing to give it a chance to see if the support is kept up for members/users and to see if the new version appears.
It does appear that there is now some contact with the Shadow Defender site which hasn't happened for a very long time
Tony has said that a new version is coming out to support Windows 8.
I believe that the real Tony is the only person that could make that happen and if there are substantial changes to the software, (more than superficial) and regular knowledgable support contact with members then I think we will all be able to see it.

Great news Patrick! At this stage if there is a new version supporting Win8 it will be enough to assume that SD has resumed its support activity, and whether Tony is the real Tony or not won't be a significant issue anymore.

It would be a great news...would be if this person is actually real Tony - author of SD's code. I have many doubt...there is so little arguments - only few mails...and we have to distinguish between two things that now we expect: Tony as the real person and new version of his program.

    No he didn't say
I asked him if he could say a few things to members and users. I've written again and am waiting for a reply.

I am not fully convinced myself yet but at least we have something to work with to make up our minds because if he does release a substantially new version and keeps up good support to members/users, he is likely to be the only person that could do that and would therefore be more likely to be the genuine developer that we knew as "Tony".
To potential users etc, I'm not recommending any particular course of action yet. Existing users will have questions that they need answering from time to time and maybe we will be able to come to a definitive conclusion as time goes on if our questions are answered and meaningful, consistant, support given.
As I said in other post, I've written again and am waiting for a reply.

    Exactly. :thumb:

I think that we should be happy that there is a contact again with a person that has to do with the program (either it is Tony himself or not) - thanks to RedDawn and to Patrick. :thumb: And in order not make shy this person again we should try to avoid further private questions and concentrate on specific technical matters concerning the program when communicating with him.

    I agree with Osaban's opinion:

That would be terrific news if Tony has appeared again and will pudate SD. I hope it will work with SSDs because I miss it as it was and still is one of my favorite programs. Thanks sdmod.

I would think so and as I've reported previously, I have used the 32-bit version on my WinXP x86 system for about a year with no adverse consequences. However I do experience an intermittent IE9 lockup that occurs with the 64-bit version on my Win7 x64 laptop. The very same issue occurs with v1.1.0325 (64-bit). :doubt:

I've just recieved another email from Tony saying "Thanks very much" and saying that he doesn't have any plans to re-instate the forum at present and giving me permission to post info from his emails on here.

Regarding the question will the up and coming Shadow Defender support ssd

I sent this in my last reply

"One thing that members have been asking me is "Will the new Shadow
Defender (The one that will run on Windows eight) run on SSD (Solid State
    Drives"?

    best wishes

I'm sorry... but I'm far from convinced yet! Waaay too many red flags associated with this software over the past couple of years.

Sounds crazy IMO, the thought of running any newly modified code of a once trusted program on ones system from someone who's identity at this juncture is still unproven. We shouldn't let a couple of emails with very little explanation, and promises of a new version, cloud our judgement...Social engineering, anyone?

Geesh! This is Wilders, where's the skepticism? :D

FWIW, according to whoisbucket, Yang Ping is the Registrant Organization for the Shadowdefender domain, whereas yang guo is the Registrant Name.

Thanks, Patrick, for your continuing correspondence with SD Support (or whoever it is :D ).

    Update:
Over the past few months I had sent emails to the SD Support email address reporting the above problem but never received a reply. Well I tried again yesterday and today I received a reply from 'Tony' requesting additional information about my system configuration! So afaic SD is now looking viable and the entire situation is certainly the best it's been for the past two years! :)

As I mentioned in post 1260, we do have a way forward without necessarily pledging premature allegience or having total blind commitment. As SD users/members ask for support from Shadow Defender site they can feed back into this forum with their estimation of the quality of the support that they have received. We can proceed with caution and if a new version that supports Windows 8 does arrive (as mentioned in Tony's email) then we can be fairly sure that we're on the right track. I am not 100% convinced yet but I do feel that even though the story is kind of "thin", it does sound to some degree plausible. We seem to have some sort of dialogue developing (which we haven't had for a very long time), let's see where it takes us before coming to conclusions but remain cautious and observant.

Their is one way that I would be 100% sure its Tony he posts here on his original account he had at Wilders. Im sure the staff have some way to verify its him.

So for those that talked to him can anyone say if it sounds like the way Tony use to speak (spelling, grammar, speech)?

    Hi sdmod

Again many thanks for keeping us all informed of the recent development with your contact with [said] Tony.

Is it possible for you to ask why Version 1.1.0.331 of SD is the only one with no change log history? please.

Because he Tony always used to write one with each update. :doubt:

    Many thanks for your time.

    Hi sdmod
I can understand RedDawn talking about scepticism, and your difficulty in getting absolute confirmation of Tony's Identity, He is just Man [or was] on is own #14.
