    What's new? 5.0.4870:

    • Windows PE Rescue media wizard - Driver injection
    • Improved USB3.0 driver compatibility. Macrium Reflect now supports the latest USB 3.0 hardware
    • ReDeploy
    • Improved performance with some target hardware configurations

    Bug fixes:

    • MBR disk restore/clone to large disks > 2TB
    • Reflect could crash when restoring an MBR disk (not GPT) if the target disk is > 2TB. This has been resolved.

School me guys, why should I use this over the built in Windows 7 Image Maker?

Mostly it's a lot faster, and it creates a smaller backup. If that doesn't matter to you, then just use Win's built-in.....

If I read it right, the Windows imager only retains the last image you made. Macrium will allow you to keep previous images as well.

I think the built-in Win7 Backup only does incremental backups. I much prefer differential backups.

In addition, I prefer to have the ability of restoring a full image to new hardware should my computer completely fails, is destroyed or stolen. Win7 backup is not nearly as flexible and easy in that regard.

One benefit is that you can mount Macrium images as a virtual drive to access or restore particular file(s).

Actually, the Win system imager will retain multiple images, but it does start deleting them based on age and available disk space after a while.... If you want to make sure it keeps all of them, you need to manually rename the image folder to something else after each image is taken, and keep track of them yourself.

I tried Win Imager a few times when I got my WIN7 computer. After each image I only had the latest one. As you say, I guess I should have renamed each image?

I am interested to try this program but was looking around on their website for some info. Does anyone know if there is a manual (preferably in pdf form that you can download and study). I searched the forum but nothing came up and strangely they only allow paid users to post. They have a knowledge base but it does not seem to be very comprehensive.

Also, can someone tell me the difference between cloning a drive and imaging a drive?

If you look on the web site you will see Support on the tool bar. Click it and then click Help where you'll find the instructions on line. I bookmarked the Help page so I can get it without accessing the app. :)
