    Avira Antivirus Premium 2012 and Webroot Secure Anywhere Essentials

    chose avira because it has consistent high marks in detection tests and doesn't nagg. I also like the red taskbar icon.

    chose Webroot because the resource usage is insanely low and it came highly recommended. They gave me a few extra months on the house.

    details:

    avira's mail and browser protection engines are disabled at install. All default settings.

    webroots firewall is set to maximum protection.

    Avast for over a year now, find it to be light, strong and have encountered no problems yet. I also find their forum to be extremely helpful and probably the nicest people on there you could find anywhere.

    I used to use BitDefender and really liked it but eventually it really slowed down my system, so I removed it. Any slow-down issues with BitDefender?

    BitDefender 2013 is lighter than previous versions but too heavy for any of my pcs to handle. :D

    I prefer Comodo. Also I love Avira, Avast, AVG, BitDefender, Kaspersky, Panda, MBAM, Hitman Pro.

    No AV since Vista and no firewall since Windows 7 RC, just what I have got in my signature. As for an ondemand scan, probably once or twice a year.

    No votes for McAfee. I wonder if they would even be in business if not for OEM installs on new computers.

    Absolutely not. McAfee is crap. They just partner with pc manufacturers and force their products in new pcs.

    It's still AVG for me, and I keep a license for PC Tools around to install on my laptops. Relatively cheap, decent protection from both companies.

    Because most Wilder are techies, for regular users running a PC without an AV can be risky IMO. :D
