You know I've been wondering, why does it matter if it automatically quarantines a threat? False-positive rates for BitDefender seem to be low, and most users wouldn't bother to check to see if a file is a false-positive or not. In a way it almost seems good taking the decision from the user; BitDefender doesn't have user-dependent chunks on AV-Comparative graphs.

Now it if auto-deletes instead of quarantine, then I can understand your concerns

In BitDefender's case,i know that i can change the settings to block the file instead of delete or quarantine it.Is the same case here?

I enconter something similar in other "crap" software but at the moment I don't remember who is, could be ad-aware? I have to investigate more, but I don't trust software house like that

They originated in Denmark, yes, but their headquarters is in Malaga, Spain. From looks of the address it appears they just have an office in Cyprus.

If they were a rogue or adware company, then think of the black eye that Bitdefender would have for doing business with them. I'm sure Bitdefender did their homework before agreeing to lease out their product.

I gave it a try. It was pretty light and decent I guess. Little impact on performance.

For many users this would not be an issue. However, in my case I refuse to use antivirus software with auto quarrantine. All antivirus software gives at least occasional false positives, and as well as that, some of the software I have downloaded or installed on my computer some antivirus software will classifty as being rogue or unwanted. I want to be able to choose what action to take when a potential threat is found.

I've got no problem with autoamtic quarrantining being enabled by default - and this can be a good thing for inexperienced users, as they may be confused as to what action to take when prompted. Also of course, may users won't even know how to check for false positives - so they are not going to question the detection anyway. However, I think it is reasonable to have the option to switch to manual handling of threats for experienced users who want the choice.

On another note, although I am using the paid version of Roboscan, if they changed the auto quarrantine in this, I would consider changing to this to see how it compares to Roboscan.

If this product is almost 100% Bitdefender, then it could be set to block the file instead of auto-quarantine.Unfortunately no one who tried Myfreeantivirus confirmed this.

Good job! Does anyone use BitDefender to confirm if they use similar menus for settings?

problem for me is i want it to ASK me what to do. if you look at those options you have 3 choices and no matter what you select it will either remove the file automatically or the choice you have is to quarantine it automatically. i dont want it to do that. i want to select what it will do when it finds something. for most this is fine though.

Shots from MYFreeAntivirus 2012 website show slightly different window than powerpack shows, although he has a check where it says 'custom'--does that bring the 'modify' button where this shot shows 'custom' button next to 'default' button:

    antivirus.png

Also, this dashboard shot shows an 'autopilot' button at top right--any luck using it to change this auto-quarantine behavior?

    EDIT:
Oops! Just noticed DBone already mentioned same thing the other day:

Roboscan includes a firewall, and I prefer to use Comodo FW. In another thread, I was advised not to use an AV 'suite' that includes a FW, along with Comodo, because even though you can switch off the AV's FW, the drivers would still load, possibly causing odd behavior.

Question: Assuming we get past the problems with obtaining MyFreeAntivirus and the auto-quarantine issues, is MFA better to use since it doesn't have a FW built in? (It doesn't, does it? They don't mention it on their website AFAIK) This would give more flexibility in picking your own FW and not having odd behavior as I just mentioned.

Yes, it does not have a built-in firewall. That is only in the suite. No a firewall does not make it better but you do get "everything BitDefender" for Free, instead of just the engine.

Plus the browser sandbox feature is included! This feature is lightweight. :thumb:

Since installing the product I checked how it behaved when downloading a potentially malicious file.

With Auto-Pilot you get no detection popup, no matter which setting you use. This is obvious for those that are aware what this feature is.

The Deny access function neither deletes the file, nor quarantines it. The user is given a popup and can decide for themselves on what to do (NOT saying BD asks you how to handle the file). The web protection (known as trafficlight) may block the file before it is even downloaded so FP encounters on the system itself is decreased.

As mentioned already, simply disable Auto-Pilot and enable "Deny access". I agree that BitDefender does not have a high FP rate and you're getting alot for free. BD engine and signatures + excellent web protection + browser sandbox.

In Auslogic's case they seem to score better than BD in the VB100 RAP test.

This new clone of BD looks like all they did was take out BD's name and put their own in it.

Auslogics did the same thing. The Auslogics team may have tweaked the engine so that the heuristics are higher, etc. Instead of assuming that Auslogics added their own technology enhancements you should ask them.
