    Hello.

I've been playing around with PotPlayer and I'm highly impressed by how light it is on resources. Reading an HD/MKV file will have the CPU usage bellow 5% (Pentium 2.00 GHz).
Windows Media Player or VLC will use above 20% with the same file, that's 4 times more and the image quality is superior with PotPlayer.
RAM usage is also lower by 30/40%

I may make it my default MP.

Anyone out there with it as the main player?

I'm using it for over a year and I can't recommend it enough, for the same reasons you mentioned. I have also forced output to madVR renderer.
I keep extensions associated with MPC though, as it starts faster.

I use it too. Its light, starts fast and is updated very often. Its the follow up project from the KMPlayer developer so it has a good reputation too.

    oops...

The main site is Korean only.
    So are the forums.
The English version seems to be working on its own.
Each update (too often) will erase the previous settings. If you use the built in updater you'll get the Korean language.
Each install will not work the same way (random behaviour).

I'm looking for a one and only Media Player but this one isn't it.

Hi Romagnolo, thanks for the answer.

    I already had a trusted site/downloader http://www.videohelp.com/tools/PotPlayer

The point is: there's no default site for PotPlayer (Korean is not default); there's no default forum (Korean again); there are no language packs (the English one is an expepction); no FAQs (Korean again).

The program has been around for some time... well, time to make it international.

There was a gap of month or two in the updates... now it seems to have quickened the pace. But yes, the updates are frequent, but not too much I'd say. Which is good.

That's true, but only for each full release (x86/x64). The updates (released for x86 only) retain settings.
Anyway, you can create your own preset here, mine is outlined -

    pot.png

then load it after a full update. Presets do not get deleted after an update.

What exactly do you mean by "random"? It's all fine here, I just load the preset, and all;s up and running. I have used both x86 and x64, but am now on x86 because of madVR.

    EDIT:

To me, these point are moot. If the player is a quality one, who cares? English is sufficient. It's just a media player, not a rocket science software.

A couple of updates a week is not good; it is too much.

You shouldn't have to. Any proper udate will remember the settings.

It's not fine here. Different downloads will produce different results... but that will happen with any application....

No, it is not not moot!
I'm sure I'm not the only one to be put off by those moot issues .

I'm still keeping PotPlayer... just still.

Interesting. Neither minor nor major updates erase previous settings in my system. I have been using it for a long time.

There are no "different downloads" afaik. Just use the link from Romagnolo's post #9. That site is recommended on AfterDawn, doom9 as well as elsewhere.

A disclaimer could be that PotPlayer is in a kind of permanent beta.

    EDIT:

Interesting indeed. I always have to load a preset after a full update. Are you using x86 or x64?

x86, standard user account. Maybe new installation overrides the old settings in the user space if you are using admin account. Since i am using SUA, installation needs admin privilege. So it only changes admin user space, not SUA. Something like that.

uufff.... what is a permanent beta?
How can you justify a program that has not a stable release?
Sorry... it has stable releases but they are called betas.
    Interesting.

I've been using GOM Player for awhile now. PotPlayer gave me a headache. GOM's not perfect, I had some problems when I tried to use it to play DVDs and sometimes the pause/play freezes up, but overall I think it's a keeper. Every media player I've tried has some problem or another, I guess you just have to find one that works best for you.

After three intensive days I decided on my default Media Player.
I'll start a new thread and ask for feedback.

I want to thank Seer, rinem, whitedragon551, ASM, Defcon, Romagnolo1973, pandorax and allizomeniz.

    A particular thanks to Seer.

    Regards.
