What is your security setup these days?

Removed BitDefender TS 2013 and am now using Webroot Secure Anywhere Complete combined with MalwareBytes Pro.

Just a wee word of advice my friend its not a good thing to be running two antivirus applications at the same time in real time or else your going to be in for a rough time..

 

Trading in Windows Defender for Microsoft Security Essentials to use along with Sandboxie and Win Patrol..

It appears that you aren't updated with the latest trends. You see, KAV is a cloud antivirus that was designed to run alongside your main AV because it features a mode for it (much like WSA and EAM do). This mode detects the malware upon execution to help avoid conflict.

 

You may be right, what will they think of next? I wonder, do you think running three antivirus applications would be acceptable in this cloud? Maybe another member could weigh in on this subject?

Thanks buddy. The detection rate is not bad. I've maxed out the settings and I'm also a careful web surfer. So I guess I wouldn't get many malware. In fact I've not been infected for over one and a half year. Therefore I'm good.

 

Three full AVs on a single system? No.

These AVs can be ran by themselves (excluding Immunet free) or as companions: Kingsoft, Webroot, and Immunet.

Then you have to go down into the settings to improve compatibility. If an AV isn't designed to do... "something", it is best to use it alone or not at all.

 

I'm surprised you've been using Windows Defender all this time. You should've traded in WD for MSE the first time you bought the pc.

 

Strong setup Ashanta. How do WSA and AG get along? Did you have to do anything special to make them charm their way to awesomeness together? AG already has MBR protection covered. Why would you need NProtect MBR Guard? Just a thought, I think Shadow Defender is redundant with your Iron Clad setup. How do you like Vba32 Anti-Rootkit?

Running as Admin on Windows7 x32 ultimate with no third party real time security

Network protection
Wireless Router with WPA2, SPI with Flood/Poisoning/Spoofing protection and Norton DNS (malware). ISP service includes email scanner and spam-filter. Using Windows 7 internal FireWall both for inbound and outbound.

Low Rights Browsing and Privacy Protection
Using Chrome (in Program Files) with Chrome sandbox and build in safe browsing website blacklisting and download reputation scoring. Running Chrome PDF and Flash plug-in with Mandatory Low Rights (AppContainer). Block indirect and HTTP cookies, allow HTTPS cookies, block javascript (except from *.NL and *.COM), click to play flash, installed Referer Control extension only (allow only HTTPS) with Windows7 skin.

Threat gate protection
Running browser, mail, media player with EMET 3.5 memory overflow protection. Added an ACL deny execute for everyone on all threat gate folders (browser download, e-mail and media player). Used Group policy hardening to deny execution from USB and never execute autoruns of USB sticks (and lot's of other GPO hardening).

AppLocker protection
Users and Admins are allowed to only execute signed executables and DLL's from safe places (Program Files and Windows). Admins are allowed to run installers from Microsoft and run scripts in Windows directory.

On demand
- Running CCleaner through scheduled task (/run /tn) to evade UAC pop-up
- HitmanPro Free (cloud) scan

 

Back to one of my all time favorite setups.
Comodo Firewall, Avast free and sandboxie.
I also have EMET 3 and Norton DNS going as well.

 

On yesterday, I installed AG. For now, it's working with the default settings (no customize) along with WSA with no troubles.

You're right about Nprotect MBR Guard running along with AG, the first one is not necessary, but I'm testing for now too, there is no conflickt between them. I think it could provide an extra add MBR protection layer.

According to Easter, SD seems to be a nice combo with Nprotect MBR.

I had just tried the newest appguard with Comodo firewall and sandboxie. It seemed to slow firefox down a little. Almost like it was stuttering at times. Odd. I'll give it another try when I have a chance.
Avast is running rather well. The last time I used it in this combo, it made my browsing crawl. So far, so good.

I use this set up on all my machines, Vista and Win 7, both 32 and 64 bit.

 

Really nice setup puff. Just to let you know, you could run WSA as an AE and close to something of a HIPS. So imo Spyshelter is redundant. Also WSA protects keystrokes better than KS and you can protect any app just like the premium KS. I wonder why you would need Fanboys TPL when you've got AdMuncher.

Why don't you leave those poor malware alone? Why are you guys always thinking about blocking them, crushing them and God knows what else? They also have rights you know. You should show some kindness and sometimes let a malware or two eat your system and private data you know.
