What is your favorite free RAR extractor? I didn't realize WinRAR wasn't free

I use Bandizip a nice program with a lot of features I like as autoextraction (if are more than 1 file, i automatically make a folder so I don't need first watch inside the zip when I extract on desktop), and a preview archive on context menu

 

Seems interesting. Could you elaborate? I wish there was a program that would automatic extract files I download in torrents

No longer developed since a couple of years but still working for me without problems (also on Windows 7).

 

I like this program a lot. Very light and gets the job done. I dumped WinRAR for this one. Thanks for the suggestion.

 

I've always used WinRar trial as their free version.
After all these years, i still don't know what's that difference between the paid and free, every single thing in the trial version works and it never annoys me to get the full license or anything.

if set to autoextract, when you doubleclick the archive Bandizip extract it and if is a single file (a movie tipically) it extract it, if is more file (a movie vith a text file) Bandizip make a folder named as the zip file with the 2 files inside.
After I used 7zip but before unzip I have to open the archive to see if was a single file or not, for exemple if you extract directly on desktop Directx9, 7zip and others you have 100 files on the desktop with bandizip you don't care of nothing, simply extract and will be a folder called Directx9 with all the file inside.
Is a features I need since years and alleluya someone have solved this issue

I go for 7zip. Been a long time user of WinRAR 3 and well just tried out 7zip and liking it.

But been wanting to ask this though, there's a freeware in the name of HaoZip and Kuaizip. Anybody has experience with these WinRAR clones...? A friend said that Kuaizip calls home often and he had to block it in the firewall just to contain it.

 

I use the free version of WinRar. I don't mind the nag screen.

I like it because it has the unique ability to create self installing setup files. Lets say you have a game you want to heavily mod with new patches, higher resolution textures, or other modifications - but you don't want to have to do the leg work of reinstalling all that every time you install the game - just do it once and use WinRar to wrap it all up in it's own unique installer. You'll have your ready made custom game any time you want it. WinRar doesn't do registry keys BUT you can create an exe batch file to reinstall the registry keys and tell WinRar to execute that when it installs the game. It's pretty nifty.

 

WinRar here and it is such a good program that I do not mind at all paying the one time for life license fee.
