    Hi:

I am using kingsoft antivirus and roboscan on 2 of my pcs and its all fine. Both have win 7 ultimate 64bit. Also I am running malware inspector too and all seems to work fine. SO there might be an issue with your windows mate.

I have also used the two together without any issues on Win7-64bit.

Just put on KAV today and it seems quite efficient. No GUI crashes or bugs.

Tested against nearly 600 'fresh' malware from malwaretips, and it compared quite well with MBAM & Panda. All were much better than Roboscan at the same samples - but this is far from a professional test.

I would appreciate knowing exactly how the 'Boundary Defense' items work, which software they work with, and what their limitations are if this is possible to answer. Most of us are experienced users, and would like to understand what we are using - so that we can decide which features are required with our existing setup.

    1. 'Web Defense - defends you from web viruses'
In what way, and for which browsers?

Is it a script scanner (looking for dodgy scripts within the HTML); a URL filter/blocker; or does it monitor the browser and plugin processes in some way and watch for drive-by downloads (exploits)?

Also how resource intensive is it?

    2. IM Defense - Protect your privacy while chatting online
What exactly does it do to accomplish this? Which IM Clients are supported?

    3. Video Defense - Protect you while watching videos online
Is it true as another poster suggested that the Video Defense puts streaming video into a sandbox? Does this work for all browsers, and how compatible is this with a browser running in Sandboxie?

    4. Download Shield - Block malicious files from download
How does this work, and does it work for all browsers?

Also what is an 'Active Cloud Defense Technique'?

Thank you if these and other questions can be answered.

Well, right off this has FAILED to detect eicar.com. It was allowed to be downloaded and run without detection. Can't use any AV that will not even detect this simple test file. Thumbs down!

KAV is detecting Rayman 2 game from GOG as "Compressed package virus". The detection is on GOG installer (setup_rayman_2.exe):
    http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/rayman_2_the_great_escape

You will have to contact GOG company to resolve this as the installer is way too big to be submitted to Kingsoft and i'm not sure if i'm allowed to do that either even if just to resolve the false positive...

This was already addressed earlier in the thread.

Yes, I know it was already discussed. My point is that even changing from quick monitor to standard monitor the eicar.com file is still NOT being detected when the file is downloaded with Free Download Manager (eicar.zip is detected even with FDM).

    No for me.

Unless the detection rate improves I can not recommend or use this AV. Not detecting eicar.com is as bad as it gets.

I noticed that even with the standard monitor setting that eicar.com is not detected when downloaded with Free Download Manager. The eicar.com file is allowed to be executed without any alerts after downloading with FDM. The zipped file (eicar.zip) seems to be detected even when using FDM. Also, I am using Firefox and Flashgot with FDM. If I right click the eicar.com link and download it, it is detected then, just not with FDM.

Standarad Monitor detects on-execution (isn't it obvious..?) and is the default option to provide instant compatibility if it is used alongside your present solution.

After downloading eicar.com with FDM the file is NOT detected by Kingsoft regardless of which monitor setting I use. On access made no difference.

How the heck did I read it as...
I truly am must be going blind. Jeeze. :cautious:

Anyways... it just could be that Kingsoft is not compatible with this software. If it doesn't work with FDM then it may just be that. I even googled it to find out more and I came across threads with users getting this issue with Norton and AVG as well.

I just noticed that earlier you said "Unless the detection rate improves". Just so you know, detection rate is not at all affected in this.

If you look both here and over on the Kingsoft forums there are a number of users who cannot detect the eicar.com file.

My own experience using the beta and the full version are; when downloading

With IE9 and Firefox only the two zipped files are detected.

With Chrome, only the eicar.com file was not picked up when downloading. But testing again today ALL 4 files are detected. Go figure!!!

    So there are inconsistencies.

Kingsoft, IMHO, need to take a look at this. For purely marketing purposes they should consider setting their AV to stop the downloading of ALL the eicar files in the main browsers; same as most of the big vendors.

Ivoshoen is part of the user minority who knows just enough to want to make sure he set up his new AV correctly. So, he goes to eicar.org and tests it. Negative result; he is going to move on elsewhere.

Don't confuse 'detection rate' with its support of the non-malicious EICAR testfile.

Its detection rate appears quite favourable from my own personal testing.
