Quarantining

    1. I have installed Risen (game) with a no-dvd fix (EEAD9709F07AE626DC75B378ABD8C601). This file is excluded, but somehow NOD32 removes it on every Windows start-up without copying to quarantine and logging!

    It's a lie. It will be removed from its original location.

    There is another location from which you can quarantine a file. That is the tools section in the main GUI

    Disabling startup scan tasks makes no difference.

    What about disabling startup scan tasks as well as automatic start of real-time protection? In that case, ESET would not scan any files and thus could not remove them either.

    I have disabled them, but the file still disappears tracelessly.

    Then I'd suggest creating a Process Monitor log from a boot as per the instructions here. It is very unlikely that the file is removed by ESET if both real-time scanner and startup scan tasks are disabled.

    Before you suggested to create a Process Monitor log, I had re-enabled self-defense and it worked.
