Frankly, I am. I am surprised by how many FB users there are. I anticipated more like 1 of 4 voters would say Yes. I was off on that! It's more like 1 out of 3 at the moment.
it is the largest breach of privacy i have seen on the internet. i think an easier question would of been who DOESNT use facebook, Two thirds of the world must be on there surely. And imaginary cyber friends are in abundance.
The question should be: Out of the people who have internet access and for whom Facebook isn't blocked, how many use Facebook? I'd bet that percentage is 50% or better.
Of course, yes, I think it's one of the best enjoyable way to communicate w/ people anywhere in the world. Just don't be too stupid in putting everything in there about yourself. Know security measures bout it. Use security programs, devices, vpn, sandbox, proxy, etc...that you can find to prevent possible identifications, threats, intrusions etc... I think, it's just functions like any other sites in the world, the only difference was that you can see many faces on there. I know there are many dangers using the net, but how different is it compared to the real world where you are in, bad news are everywhere. I think it's just part of the modern computer information age. We cannot escape it. Younger generations are becoming more intelligent, advancing more faster than sound.
I've tried setting FB account in the past so that I can connect with my friends, relatives and my younger siblings who are on FB. However, being the kind of person I am (self-convinced dual personality: privacy-oriented vs attention-seeker), I can't decide if I should really proceed since FB seems to be just the right tool that allows me to share lots and gain the attention that I rightfully deserve No. I'm not kidding you. Nevertheless, I didn't really put in much efforts/thoughts over the matter and end up abandoning it. I might give it another go though. After all, I haven't really gave up on the idea of selling my soul to the so-called Devil. I wonder what that tastes like...
Yes I do, I joined it recently because of a friend I used to know more than 40 years ago at school couldn't find me on FB but it gave him a useful hint on how to find me through Bing. I was so overwhelmed by this unexpected connection with the far past that when my friend said it would have been easier had I joined FB in the first place, I joined on the spot. Two weeks later, I had connected to half a dozen people who I didn't even know whether they were still alive. It was indeed an awesome experience. Like most people here I used to eschew FB without any second thoughts, but people should ask themselves first what are they going to use FB for: Family, common interests, advertising business, promoting ideas etc. It is a very versatile medium giving the amount of privacy each of us is comfortable with. At first there is a bit of a learning curve, but it is pretty intuitive in the end. Last but not least it is probably the best medium on the Internet to reach large crowds almost simultaneously, still not as powerful as television (I don't watch TV!) but very effective for ideas, businesses, and of course other perhaps undesirable fields. We are living in a century with extremely mobile populations therefore the possibility to remain connected almost in real time with people who are living far and apart is very tempting.
Well you've taken on a second job all the friending and unfriending and keeping up with contacts. That 's what facebook becomes and then there's the moving target of privacy issues. So many people who join privately regret it later.
Not in the least. There's no urging from anybody. You can even join FB with an alias, it is perfectly legal as long as your activities are deemed so. Another piece of disinformation is about a member's visibility: You decide how visible you want to be, what information is public, private, very private, who is entitled to share your information etc, it can really be configured to suit everyone's idea of privacy. It is advisable for people joining for the first time to refrain from uploading a lot of private information until they are familiar with FB's privacy tools. Other than that it is interesting and fun to log in and see what some of your friends may be thousands miles away are up to...
I use it on a daily basis, i find it a great way to keep in touch with friends and family no matter where in the world they are. Recently its also been a great tool for my local community as all the different groups we've setup really help a lot of people out whether its buying and selling stuff, looking for help, advertising local businesses and whole lot of other things.

The more I connect with people thousands of miles away, the less I connect with people in my own home, neighborhood or town. The more I live in the past, the less I live in the present. The more I interact with machines, the less I interact with humans. And so it goes.
I agree with Page42. I can't really add to his post or take anything away. Well, since I currently have the spotlight, I can only say, that Reality is being offline.
That's why I removed FB, Twitter and Google+ account last week. All my real friends have my mobile and mail and I have theirs. If we want to stay in touch, we can do it in pub with a pint of beer.

Actually rejecting any new technology a priori is more of a sign of living in the past. Well Page with a massive poster standing here at Wilders not only you've frequently interacted with a network of machines, but the topic at Wilders' core is the health of these machines. By the same token we shouldn't use cell phones, cars etc. If someone says FB doesn't feel right for my type of personality, and in principle I don't like sharing personal experiences, I say fair enough, but 90% of the people against it in this poll didn't even try it with a strong innuendo that people who use it are kind of childish and jokers.
Hi Osaban, Let me say right off that I have the utmost respect for you and I always look forward to reading your posts. Post #62 on this thread is no exception. Let me point out that in the three examples I cited, Osaban, I prefaced each one with the word "more". Meaning not that I am opposed to any of them, but that I have found that for me, the key is to limit my participation. Also, I have been careful to use the word "I", meaning the observations pertained to me, although I do firmly believe that many in the human race would benefit from a "less is more" approach to things like FB.
