Block Level Differential / Incremental Backup Programs...?

Is there any end-user-oriented (i.e. not enterprise) block level differential and/or incremental backup programs for Windows out there...?

Sorry... I'm not sure what you mean by "block level." Are you talking disk sector-based backup VS file backup?

Tried BVCKUP on 2 Win7 PC's. Kept giving errors when copying locked files. Have no trouble with VSS on these PC's with other backup apps. BVCKUP looks promising, but not quite ready yet. BVCKUP has not been updated in nearly 2 years. Developer claims new version coming, but I'm not holding my breath.

BTW, successfully sync'd same files with KLS Backup Pro that BVCKUP kept failing.

Still not yet decided. Hard to justify the cost of many of these programs when there are free solutions that do the job adequately (but missing a desirable feature or two).

And with Win8 coming, the reduced upgrade price, and File History, perhaps I should wait for a few more months and see.

I should also mention that CrashPlan does this as well, but it's kind of different to traditional backup programs.

I'm not sure since I'm not using it at present.However I believe you can create custom scripted tasks so it might be possible

How much is your time worth? Programs like Syncback are cheap and can be installed on multiple PC's with a single license purchase (for home users).

You think Win8 built in backup will be the magic you've been waiting for? No Delta backup. File history is kind of CDP. Not much different than you'd get if you used Syncback or KLS Backup.

Crashplan is written in JAVA. Yes, the same JAVA that is updated all too often due to security problems. Yes, the Mac and Windows client versions of Crashplan are written in JAVA.

Until Crashplan takes the time to write a native app for each OS they serve, no security minded people will show them much respect.

 

It turns out, as claykin mentioned, Win8's File History is far from being ideal, the lack of delta copying can put serious strain on an environment running on wireless network and big files are involved.

Genie Timeline offers delta copying but no versioning, at least for the free version. The paid/home version is available for 40USD, with coupons and discounts popping up from time to time.
