Okay I've installed 7-Zip. Now what do I do? For example if I want to encrypt the Word file 'Copy of' to store it to Skydrive?

I've uninstalle DefenseWall and Panda Cloud - there were no problems with them, just for variety. So now I'm having:

    UAC max
    SRP default deny
Comodo Internet Security 5.10 (waiting for CIS 6 - it will have Virtual Kiosk!)
    Comodo Time Machine 2.8
    MBAM trial
    Clonezilla

I use Cobian Backup (free) to automatically run each night. It takes selected folders, zips them up and encrypts them with AES-256. It then moves the archives to the skydrive folder, which is then synchronised.

    Hope this helps!

Eset Antivirus, appguard, and mbam is what I run. I've played with enough malware to know antivirus's etc are only your first step in preventing malware since it can all be bypassed easily. Browse and download with caution and majority of us could be worry free.

The same here. I use it without VSS and backup files, while they are not in use.

Ok I accept your truce. It sucks your VSS is broken. Cobian is great software.

Well I'm happy without VSS. I've got Drive Snapshot and use 7-Zip to encrypt my files to Skydrive with 25GB. I don't need VSS. :)

It works if files are not in use. Otherwise it logs the error in log. Did not try zipping and encrypting files. Will try and let you know...

Good workaround. VSS is suspect on XP.

    OK, tested it.
If no file is in use, Cobian creates backup with no problems. Files are restorable.
If files are in use, Cobian creates backup for other files. For files in use it logs error "Cannot open the file". Backup doesn't contain those files, other files are restorable.
