Whoa, whoa! No need for the sarcasm. I said I've used wise registry cleaner for a long time. Now I'm using ccleaner. I do not know how to make it any clearer.

I had used one or more REGISTRY CLEANERS for many years. I have found even the best of them (of the sort mentioned in WILDERS), to do more harm than good. If I feel the need to delete a registry key, I will do it manually. If a severe problem exists, I simply reformat.

Extremely rarely I will do a scan with CCleaner's built in registry scanner. I create backups of each scan and check each entry before removal. I've never encountered any issues as generally they're just start menu items I've moved.

I use CCleaner to maintain my machines, including the registry. CCleaner is easily the least aggressive registry cleaner on the market, as it only finds the absolute most obvious issues..........Sort of like picking out the 25 yellow rocks in a pile of thousands of purple rocks.

Other cleaners try to pick out the light purple, dark purple, magenta and fuschia rocks, and that's when the problems begin. ;)

Decided to join this fantastic forum, been reading everyday for months.

i use CCleaner, occasionally when I've uninstalled several programs that I have been trying out I may use Gary, Auslogics or Wise as CCleaner does not cleanout the registry as well as these do. I just download them, use them, and then uninstall them, not all 3, just pick one.

I added PrivaZer to my cleaning utilities, as it also has a registry component build in as one of the options.

Technically I have 3, since Revo Uninstaller cleans out registry keys in an advanced uninstall.

And I also have CCleaner, and Auslogics Registry Cleaner.

I rarely use any of them though, and will do the cleaning manually if at all.

I use TuneUp Utilities 2011, Vit Registry Fix Pro, Auslogics Registry Cleaner and Registry Mechanic.

However I only use them very occasionally, as for the most part cleaning the registry is a complete waste of time - removing all those hundreds or even thousands of errors usually does nothing to benefit your computer. To put things into persepctive, I once removed around 10,000 registry errors followed up by a registry defrag. After this my computer did not appear to run any faster or better - I could tell absolutely no difference.

The ones I listed are safe to use (as long as you disable deep scan in Vit).

To those using CCleaner, you need to disable the check for unused software entries to use it safely.

There are extremely rare cases where cleaning the registry can boost performance or fix problems. However it all to common for registry cleaners to actulaly cause problems, becuase 99% of registry cleaners will identify some needed registry keys as being errors. Of course, deleting these needed registry keys can cause problems.

CCleaner. Hardly use Revo Uninstaller free anymore in Win 7 (in advanced mode) as it doesn't uninstall 64 bit software.

In CCleaner I always scan for issues, check them out individually and make a backup of those that can be deleted. Never had to use the *merge* feature.

It's always wise to backup the registry prior to using a registry cleaner. I do a weekly manual Registry Backup by http://www.tweaking.com/ weekly just in case although I don't use other registry cleaners than the ones posted above.

So needed registry keys don't get deleted.

Why? There's not much point in cleaning the registry more than once a month.

Only have one key that I needed because of a mod I had made to the system
but just put it on the ignore list and it works fine

and I guess I'm a clean freak, just a habit when I shut the system downo_O

I have always done that ever since Windows Vista and why am I not supposed to do it?

I don't want to ever run that crappy browser

Well it's not really uninstalling, it's disabling, either way, at least I never see it anymore
