Since I am not experiencing the same issue with Outlook Express, I will use that for now while searching a solution.

 

I would also recommend you fill out a PF support ticket. The developer is very responsive and will usually get back to you quickly.

I never asked this but are you running Outlook in compatibility mode in WIN 7? That might have something to do with the PF issues? In reality, you really should upgrade that MS Office version you have.

 

is private firewall able to stealth its ports now?
Last time i used it the ports would not stealth no matter what different configurations i would use.
I tested on the shields up site.Is the shields up test a legit site or another pay more and get rated more site?

I keep going back and forth between PFW, Comodo FW/D+ and OA. I like PFW as it seems much quieter then the other two. However, I keep running into a similar issue with PFW and Comodo. I'm not using any of these at the sametime and I do a fresh install of windows between tests.

PFW and Comodo will ever so often start just blocking various things without giving any notifications. Like they'll randomly start stopping firefox from loading, kill them and FF (or whatever app, and some of these apps are added as trusted) will instantly pop up. I haven't run into this kind of problem with OA.

 

I've not experienced that issue on either of our two XP machines.
Might be worth exploring with a support ticket to Privacyware.

 

Sent them a ticket, also sent off an email to Comodo since I get the same random oddness with that as well.

 

I tried PFW yesterday and it is just plain dreadful.
The computer froze and nearly forced a hard restart.
It then proceeded to go berserk and block everything.
It wouldnt remember decisions i made.
It was very quickly uninstalled and i cant see me installing it anytime soon.
Big thumbs down from me to privatefirewall.

 

I've been reading your various threads all over the web (as well as here at Wilders) under a variety of nom de plumes (none of which conceal who you really are, now do they?) and in each instance you are blaming either Online Armor, Comodo, Sandboxie or Private Firewall (or any of a number of other security apps for that matter) for your failure to either understand how to properly set them up or remove remnants of your last install.

What you need to do is look in the mirror and face up to the fact that installing, removing and reinstalling multiple firewalls and other security apps daily, none of which you understand how to use properly (in the least) is neither doing you, your system security or us, the poor so and so's that have to read your multiple daily diatribes, any good.

Stop asking everyone how to do everything for you and then turning around and blaming everyone and every app for your own ineptitude. It is really exhausting, unbecoming and the developers that offer these free products which you so freely abuse do not deserve the bad press from folks that couldn't find a ham in an icebox...Nor do the good members of these (once great) sites deserve to be subjected to your ignorance and prattle.

 

I agree with Blues7. The quickest way to trash your Windows installation is to install/remove multiple firewall, AV, HIPS and the like software.

Many people for example don't know that many vendors have separate removal software for their products. My experience is most of these don't remove 100% of the software residuals.

Pros who want to experiment with software do so with in a VM i.e. virtual machine or make a full partition image backup prior installing and do a restore to get rid of the software.

Ive only been using windows computers for two years and my expertise may not be as good as yours but im trying my best and i do not come on to these forums to have my character assassinated by people like you.

Yes ive tried several programs like most people have and i make my own opinion on how the program ran on my particular computer.
I am not ignorant as you conceitly said and it would appear you are somewhat arrogant which are not nice characteristics at all.
Yes also ive visited other forums to seek advice on several programs and how they work and ive tried a few firewalls and finally settled on online armor .

PF work just fine on my pc, no conflict or what so ever with my other security set up. and it was very easy to configure

 

I had some freezing issues with PF a few days ago. It appears to have been Avast. After uninstalling Avast and installing Roboscan I have not had a single system freeze. Roboscan (ESTSoft) rates better than Avast, AVG and most other av's according to the recent VB100 RAP test, scans much faster and is lighter on my system.

Does Privatefirewall have HIPS? It says in the website that it's Signature-less, Behavioral-based Monitoring and Defense.

 

Yes it has HIPS which is on by default and can have various levels, but it can also be switched off by just one click, so it's also suitable for anyone who does not want HIPS just a decent firewall.

I liked privatefirewall when I used it recently. You can set the sensitivity of the HIPS. You can also turn off the trusted publisher check. Which is a good thing if you don't trust digital signatures and such. I also love the fact that it alerts you to program changes. Something that OA does as well. I love that feature. Comodo doesn't have it I believe. Private also seems a little bit quicker in opening pages. Don't get me wrong I love my comodo. If I were to use another firewall it would be private.

 

Comodo's Defense+ by default monitors critical system files and registry areas. If you want more protection than than, you have to manual create your own rules in Defense+. What Comodo does not have is PF's System Anomoly Detection. Don't know if that is a big deal since as I understand it, this feature in PF is a "watered down" version of that feature.

 

No it's not a big deal. I would much rather have the HIPS of D+. I'm sure if I put D+ in paranoid mode that it will tell me everything.

Yeah I know. I lurk over there as well. I think comodo firewall out of the box it pretty good. I have changed a lot of settings on it to really make it strong. I've even used paranoid mode and it wasn't too bad. Until I forgot to dial it down when installing a program. I haven't heard that much noise since my son's birthday party.

 

Comodo is absolutely superb for a free suite.it is the lightest i have ever installed and it always runs sweetly on my computer.
it never bogs down my system after time like some other people were saying and in the comodo forum there is an excellent tutorial by chiron on how to harden comodo up.

its a choice, but PF felt lighter than comodo on my pc.
