I especially love the carousels / sliders ... there could be one after each post. And lots and lots of javascript and trackers and those wee ads that appear when one hovers over text and plain old pop-ups and pop-unders and [move]cookies. Yummy :)[/move]

    Great poll!
Made me realize how much I like Wilders EXACTLY the way it is now!
Do I want Wilders to have a makeover?
    Nope.
    It's perfect. :thumb:

Many of the UI designs considered more modern looking are poor designs from a man/machine user interface point of view. Especially where "more modern looking" means "simplified, less cluttered" and/or a substantially static design geared towards one size display is applied to a significantly different sized display. So I too think such a proposal would have to be drilled down into in order to determine the extent to which usability might be sacrificed for appearance sake.

I haven't looked into the application of user style sheets to Wilders' design. That is, I would think, a method via which people could apply some appearance tweaks without impacting others.

i really like for the skin of the forum to change but if moderators are thinking about it, please choose a simple one, like the current theme but maybe more stylish.

Please don't. No makeovers, facelifts, botox, nip 'n tucks or questionable enlargements of any kind. :)

I don't guess it really matters.. the information is still here I suppose. Compared to other forums I visit this one does seem like a blast from the past for sure.

The current look/skin is fine. What I miss are some vBulletin's features like:

    - public/private chat
    - public/private social groups
    - public/private friends lists
    - public/private visitor messages

And of course, a better search (as mentioned by noone_particular).

Your agreeing with Hungry Man and we can't have that. You have to be opposite him that's the established pattern.

A make over certainly isn't needed. However a more cheerful color other than blue would be nice.

Now that you mention it, I would agree that the search could be improved.
But somehow I've managed around here for the last five years with the search the way it is. ;)

Nah ... the colour blue is peaceful & implies confidence while suggesting security. ;)

I have seen quite a few forums that used this style/layout we have now. Some of them have updated to a more modern style/layout. I don't visit them very often because of it.

IMO there is more to be said for getting the info you want in a clear, concise and expedient fashion than there is for the fashion of the hour. Most new styles/layouts that I have seen are less about useability and more about just being hip and current. Everything is large and bloated, takes gobs more screen to get the same amount of data, and scads more scrolling and page loading to boot.

I don't know why anyone would prefer looks over content unless the content really wasn't worth much.

    Sul.

Yes, you could use Stylish at least, a Firefox addon, to restyle Wilders just for you.
    Stylish
You can also search userstyles.org for user styles made by others.
A search for vbulletin there yields a lot of examples.
Figuring out how to apply it to Wilders is easy. People could start a thread i guess if they feel like it, or need help.

It doesn't have to be an either / or situation if handled properly.

Interesting how that comment immediately reminded me about the new look of Windows 8! :D
