We are in the process of renewing our ESET licenses and now that the new versions are available for download I am stuck determining which versions go with what. I understand that ESET Endpoint Antivirus is the new client, ESET Mail Security is for mail servers and ESET File Security seems to be for "File Servers".

My question is what ESET product do we put on Domain Controllers? SQL Servers? IIS Servers? Hyper-V Virtual Machines (Host and VM's)?.

In the past we placed NOD32 on these types of servers with special policies and exclusions built off ESET/Microsoft KB articles. What is ESET recommending now that version 5 is available for download?

    Hello,

It is going to be best for you to contact your local ESET office, distributor or reseller and ask for the sales department to answer this, but my general rule of thumb is as follows:
    • If a computer (physical or virtual) is running a Windows Server OS, I would put ESET File Security for Microsoft Windows Server on it unless there was a specific product for that server, like ESET Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange Server or ESET Gateway Security for Microsoft Forefront Threat Management Gateway, in which case I'd use the appropriate product.
    • If a computer (physical or virtual) is running a Windows Desktop OS, I would put ESET Endpoint Antivirus (formerly ESET NOD32 Antivirus Business Edition) or ESET Endpoint Security (formerly ESET Smart Security Business Edition) on it.
This is a support forum, though, and not a sales or a marketing one, so I'd suggest getting in touch with a salesperson for a more complete description.

    Regards,

Thanks for the replies. The answers that you both gave is what I was expecting to hear, but just wanted to confirm that what I was thinking was correct.

Unfortunately the answers I received from our reseller weren't that helpful and sales people, well all they want to do is sell. I would much rather know what versions that the support/technical people recommended over what a sales person would recommend any day.

    Hello,

Keep in mind that you do not need to install multiple versions of an ESET product on an operating system, e.g., if you install ESET Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange Server on a mail server, you should not install ESET File Security for Microsoft Windows Server on it as well.

The only exception to this not-quite-rule are ESET Remote Administrator and ESET Authentication Server, which are not antimalware programs, per se.

    Regards,
