VPN advice

LOL, I can be creative to a point; but when they start asking me to provide ID to validate my information, then what do I do? I do have boundaries of how far I am willing to go to make this work Honestly, the BTC route, for now, seems like the best choice for me.

PayPal checkout is asking for ID? Without trying to create a PayPal account? That would be very bad news.

 

Someone else had posted their new TOS which was very depressing. Now, that may have been specific to accounts with Paypal, and not the pay through Paypal option; regardless, I have never been a fan of Paypal; they tend to be very prejudicial about who they will or will not allow payment to go to. I do apologize though, the ID requirement is from the Liberty Reserve website. From what I have read, LR does NOT check ID, but their TOS states they could; and that is what I was talking about in my earlier post.

A friend just PMed me that PayPal checkout process hasn't changed. It requires name, address, email and telephone, but there's no authentication requirement.

 

It looks like you have to put an email in 2x; once for the BitInstant and once for the Truecash site. Did you just go with the same email for both places, or did you go with a different one for each? I will report back my progress later today

Should you connect to TOR then your VPN or VPN then TOR?

 

It depends on what you are trying to accomplish. If you connect to your VPN through Tor, your VPN will not know where you are located and the Tor exit node can not read your traffic (but the VPN could). If you do it the other way around, the Tor network will only see you coming from your VPN exit server and your VPN could not read your traffic, but the Tor exit node could. There were some other 'pluses' posted in another thread to method #2, but I forget what they were. I trust my VPN more than a Tor exit node, so I like method #1.

Pauly do you happen to have any links regarding these two different connection methods? I've been searching all over the forum.

Also if you do connect via method #1 VPN through TOR, the server would see your AIRVPN IP correct?

 

The best info for method #1 would be on AirVPN's site, look for "Connecting Through Tor". For the second, there was some discussion on here of some advantages, but I don't know where...let me see if I can find it.

Yes, method #1 would show your VPN exit address to the website. Your VPN wouldn't see where you came from, and the Tor Exit Node would only see the encrypted tunnel.

Obviously, if you didn't *always* use this method, *and* your VPN was evil, they could always just say "well, 99% of the time, he connects from here..."

There's no such thing as anonymous VPN unless you personally know the locations of VPN servers and the administrators. Thus, get promo or free VPN accounts.

I read your recommended link and it's very interesting; however I am missing the point where a free VPN is any better than say AIRVPN? Further, when I do use TOR, I only use the TBB (to avoid the leaks you mentioned with the webcam) and I still tend to go through VPN before hand, even then.

As far as anonymity with AIR, they are about as close to anonymous as it comes if you use BTC payment and follow their recommended process for obtaining service.
