According to the program, the rootkit guard is checked. It does seem to update once per day...

    Are you sure? :)

Edit: Is it possible to install the free AV without the browser toolbar? :doubt:

Yes I am sure, the box is ticked.

When installing, you can opt out of the toolbar. Even if it installed you could turn it off in the browser.

So far, I am still liking it, and with the free firewall, this seems like a good combo for us "cheapskates"...

Downloaded and installed the free version today.

Still no rootkit protection and the interface is littered with ads. Didn't even last five minutes on my laptop.

I am not a big PC Tools defender, but why are people saying "No Rootkit protection" when the "Rootkit Protection" box is Checked by default?

Yes, the program window is a little cluttered, but I almost never see it. It is a very "Quiet" program to me, so far...

    Agreed. :thumb:

I've heard that a few people with the free version have gotten upgrade to an SD+AV trial (or accidentally install it). When I installed it, all I saw was ads, grey boxes, and locks.

So I can't show the image, but as someone noted on my Win 7-64 Lenovo, it actually installed PC Tools Spyware Doctor with AntiVirus. That is the program that has the check boxes, including rootkits.

I don't know why it installed that, but it works fine with the old free PC Tools Firewall Plus...
