Windows 7 Setup advice please

I am about to build a new PC and install Win7 64bit on it So far I have been very happy with my current WinXP security setup based around Surun and SRP Currently I am reevaluating what my new security setup needs to be and would like advice on whether Surun and SRP is still the recommended way to go and if so how does Win7 change things For instance one thing that does come to mind is that it seems that under Win7 it is acceptable for software to install themselves in the user profile rather then C:\Program Files

Any insights and suggestions would be welcome

 

you allowed it - you something clicked while UAC popped up.
if you deny in UAC program goes to users profile instead program files.
surun, srp - needless - windows has it all built-in. "run with admin rights"

 

Not yet studied UAC too closely but doesnt Surun prevent unwanted prompting from the OS

 

i dont know - i never used this futile crap.
maybe surun is responsible for your problem above.

I used SuRun and UAC before in Windows 7. (You will still get pop-ups from UAC, I just used SuRun just to automate giving admin rights without typing a password.)
About your original question you can just used UAC and SRP, to "imitate" your XP setup.

I can't help you with that as I don't do install in user profiles and I have a home premium which doesn't have SRP.
EDIT: And I don't believe SuRun as futile crap. It's a great software, though I removed it from my setup.

I use SuRun and SRP with Windows 7 and it works pretty well. However, I turned off UAC because in my admin account it was showing as a limited account when UAC was turned on. The smiley icon in the tray was green, just as if it was a limited account. After turning off UAC, it was black and yellow, like it's supposed to be in an admin account.

A couple of things in 7 are a little different than in XP. You'll find some things that you right click and the "Start as Adminstrator" isn't in the context menu. If you hold shift and right click, then it will be there. I'm sure you've noticed in XP that when you have an Explorer window with admin privileges open, you have to refresh it to see changes you've made like deletions or pasting something. In 7 that doesn't happen anymore, you see all the changes without refreshing it.

I don't have anything that tried to install to the user profile. The only thing I'm aware of that does that is Google Chrome, which I don't use.

Well my input isnt as useful as in the above
When i tried SuRun with normal LUA, i got Bsod.. it was bit odd. After that i havent tried it, tho i still like the concept of SuRun
