Interesting. I tried it out and didn't love it. It's way better for anyone with a large screen but on the CR48 I'd hate that bar on the bottom.

 

So basically he likes windows 7, lol.

Note: Seeing at it's a SJVN written article I didn't bother reading the entire thing as it will be full of the usual nonsense lies and propaganda.

 

I think he just really hates Gnome 3.

 

Shame he hasn't commented on cinnamon yet, it's my favourite by far.

I like most of SJVN's articles. He doesn't try to sell me anything.

 

Shells that aren't made by Microsoft or Apple tend to always look and feel like drafts. Sometimes ugly drafts.

BTW, Aura seems to be an imperfect copy of Windows 7's Aero.

Nonsense, it's completely up to the authors design capability and the amount of time and effort they put into it. This is quite clear when you compare something like Cinnamon against Unity.

 

I never used Cinnamon. My conclusion is based on what I saw of KDE, Gnome, Unity, Symbian (dunno the name of its shell), WebOS (dunno the name of its shell) and Android (dunno the name of its shell).

I think Microsoft and Apple simply have/use more money to invest in usability.

He seems to be better than most, but like all pundits sometimes he does things just to create controversy and get attention.

As for Linus, I ignore everything he says that isn't Linux kernel-related.

 

Google Chrome OS is a very minimalistic Linux. I'm not surprised Torvalds likes the concept.

Much of Linux is bloatware these days. Its what it should be - fast and simple!

 

It uses some of the Linux kernel, but it isn't really a Linux OS.

With Windows or Mac OS X, you don't get a choice about whether you get bloatware or not. I'm using XFCE on Linux today and it's a nice balance between stripped-down and featureful. It's also pretty fast.

Besides that, one person's bloatware is another's full-featured.

 

It's way more Linux than Android is by far. It's using the Linux kernel with open source Linux patches.

 

I don't know about MacOSX, but there are free tools like RT Se7en Lite or 7Customizer that can strip out many things of Windows 7 (much more than the native Turn Windows features on or off). Of course, I don't think this is necessary or recommended, but it's an option for those with very weird concepts of what is bloatware.

 

Yeah, Vista/7 let you turn a lot of things off and you can disable quite a bit. It's nowhere near what you can do on Linux but it's a big step up from XP.

 

Even in XP you could truly remove many many things with the help of tools like XPlite and nlite. In the past I had this weird habit of creating customized XP images. Of course, nothing difficult, just some clicks in some boxes, lol.

 

The same could be said about SJVN's colleague, Ed Bott. He is a MS shill who's blog posts are routinely filled with lies, omissions and simple misunderstandings.

 

To be fair I generally avoid zdnet altogether. But looking at his past articles now, I don't see anything about Linux. In other words he sticks to his own "field" instead of making up lies and nonsense about the subjects he disagrees with. Sounds a hell of a lot more mature than SJVN

 

It's pretty clear why some people detest SJVN.
