Problem with Streaming

Two similar problems with playing audio streams appeared immediately after updating to ESET AV Version 5. One problem I was able to fix and one remains. I'm running XP Pro SP3 with current updates.

The problem that is fixed is as follows: Go to URL http://www.kunm.org/, this is public radio via the University of New Mexico. Near the top on the right side are two buttons that you may click to listen to their radio stream. Neither one worked. The playing applications, Real Player for the MP3 choice and Windows Media Player for itunes, just hung. The solution that worked for me was to unmark Real and WMP as "browsers" in the ESET HTML setup.

The only applications still marked as browsers in ESET are Microsoft IE and Mozilla FF and TB.

Now for the remaining problem. Go to URL http://www.jazzandblues.org - this is KKJZ, a full time jazz station hosted by Long Beach State College in Los Angeles and also a public radio affiliate. Now click on "Listen Live" near the top right hand part of the page that you brought up. A window appears and text is displayed showing things like the song title now playing, previous titles, and advertisement on the right. However, there is no music.

Any suggestions on a safe way to restore my favorite jazz source so I can listen to the music?

 

WinXP SP3, Firefox 12, RealPlayer, EAV 5.0.95 installed, all apps marked as browsers. Streaming audio on both sites plays fine.

 

It seems my experience is different. In fact my problem goes away if I uncheck "enable HTTP checking". Unfortunately, I can then download, e.g., eicar as well as music.

Do you have that option check? If so, what else might I need to change. If uncheck, how do I assess the risks? It seems from the manual and help files that I would lose a significant portion of ESET protection.

 

Your comp is always protected via real time protection modules.

 

My question was "what is the risk?". If there were none, HTTP protection wouldn't need to be offered? <- Note question mark. Please explain.

Addition to original post: Doesn't turning off HTTP checking negate any effects of marking a particular application as a browser? If that is correct, your original response that you had no problems with all apps marked as Browsers was somewhat misleading.

I'm trying to get these questions clarified so that I have safe computers that allow normal straightforward uses of the net.
