Been using it for over a year now, really helpful and healthy for the eyes.

Basically, it dims your monitor(s) to match the intensiveness of light outside at a given time; it relies on your time zone and will dim the monitors around sunset, and revert back at sunrise. Do not confuse it for brightness lowering; it simply gives your screen a sort of twilight feel to it, keeping the colors crisp and clean.

Try turning it on and using your computer at night for an hour or so, and then shut it down suddenly (by force-exiting the application, not by using the right-click "disable for an hour" function, which will revert your monitor settings gradually). You'll be surprised how on earth you used to take that much light and not even notice it :)

I've had it for a month and got rid of it today. At first I used it for its intended purpose, but soon realized "turning down the light" was doing the same thing to my eyes that bright screens were. It turned everything ugly and harsh. Here, this is much better for you anyway http://eyeleo.com/. You'll get far better results getting away from the screen and/or looking at something else than making your screen darker.

Thanks for the share. It would be too much of a hassle for me though, I don't want something to disturb me while I'm at the PC, I prefer something passive. I don't feel that the colors with f.lux were harsh or anything like that, but it probably depends a lot on how sensitive you are to this sort of thing / what monitor / gfx card you use.

I tried it on Ubuntu but I feel the ppa has fallen by the way :( . Anyway, I have a day and a night stylesheet for browsing. And most of my other apps have been tamed to grey rather than white. My desktop is boring black.
