I find these reports rather interesting. I find it alot more useful than detection tests. Im shocked at the disc space used by some of the vendors.
Its surprising how little disc space is used by f-secure considering it uses the bitdefender engine as well as in house engines.

Great result for WSA, nothing else even comes close to its performance.

I had F-Secure installed some months ago and, after some weeks, it ended using almost a gigabyte in my hard drive. After unistalling I had to manually delete around 250 MB that the uninstaller had ignored, mostly .log files and things like that.

I don't always pay for antivirus software...but when I do, I prefer Webroot SecureAnywhere.

Stay light AND secure my friends...

Same test data as the older revisions, just this revision they:

"Added results for 2 additional Internet Security products and 1 additional Antivirus product. Added results for SSD testing on 5 Internet Security products." - Report Revision History

So the numbers will remain mostly the same with just some juggling around of the order as they slide more results in. The origin of the numbers is identical.

I don't see much point in this test considering outdated software was used in it.

I hope tests like this enlighten some folks that the amount of RAM a program uses is NOT the sole indicator of whether or not something is "heavy" or "light". Disk and network throughput are often way more important than whether or not something uses 50MB more RAM than another product.

I hope f-secure can solve the disc space issue. the main issue is that the bitdefender engine is so large.

What I'd really like to see in tests like this is a baseline (No security software) for tests it's appropriate for. Obviously you can't test scan speeds baseline, but stuff like system boot speed, copy speed, etc, are all testable in a control situation.

That sort of thing helps put the situation in better perspective. If the system takes 27.9 seconds to boot with nothing, 28.1 with AV A and 60.3 with AV Z, that means something different than 12.7 seconds to boot with nothing and the same times with the respective AV packages.

    Please Note:

    Disclosure
Symantec Corporation funded the production of this report, selected the test metrics and list of products to
include in this report, and supplied some of the test scripts used for the tests
