I'm still slightly confused tbh. This key obviously allows to install the Essentials version, and the key will expire like a normal licence.

But am I correct I can still (read also) install the beta on another system and the key will not expire allowing one to stay on the cutting edge of developments?

The keys do expire, even on the beta version, because betas always eventually expire. You can just use this new key in the beta version, while if you reinstall the beta trying to use the old key, it won't work.

Thanks Techfox. But the old beta key did not expire and this one does seem to do so. It kept saying 365 days or something if I recall correctly.

How can I see whether I'm running the beta? It used to be printed on the main screen:)

The old beta keys just couldn't tell you when they would expire. It was a secret... :)

The beta path should still say beta on it. Make sure you install using the executable acquired from the URL from your original beta invite. The exe should contain the string "byinvite" in the name. Any other installer is not the beta.

The new key will not say Beta on the main GUI it will say Webroot SecureAnywhere Essentials and it is good for one year as an appreciation for being a Closed Beta tester! Also if you need to download I hope you still have the email from last year to be able to download the "wrcloudbyinvite.exe" file another thing is you and register this fully active key https://my.webrootanywhere.com/default.asp meaning you can use the Online file Back up!

Maybe this has already been answered. I purchased and registered the Essentials version. Installed about 2 mos ago. Today, under "My Account" it is showing that I have 587 days left. My question is this: If I wait until these days expire, can I still activate under the free one they have given us?

Ok folks, here is the skinny. Since no one replied to my inquiry, just shot off a email to support asking the same question. WOW! Were they fast, less than 4 minutes for a reply! They asked for my FREE key code (which I had not activated) and gave it to 'em. And as Mr. Paul Harvey would have said, "And that's the rest of the story." See their reply below:

    Hi,

You're welcome! All done, if you run another scan on the system the days should reflect on your installation.

    950 days expiring 11/18/14.

    Have a good night.

    Regards,

    Webroot Support Team

You just can't asked for better service than THAT! ;) :thumb: :thumb:

Reference my solution above: Just rec'd this morning and testers need to be aware of the mistake made. Their message today:

    Hello,

After consulting with our Support management, I realized that I made a mistake with how I handled your key code. The Beta code was provided specifically for continued testing using the agent version provided by the link in the message you received. We never intended to transfer days from this Beta code to any other code. However, we made these changes and we intend to honor them, if you are currently satisfied. If we make a mistake we do want it to be in your favor. This case and it's resolution is an exception. We will not be able to provide any of these changes to other testers.

    Regards,

    Webroot Support Team

    Truly lucky guy :D

They have made expired my custom key until the new beta key expire. I have been told to contact support after that and they will reactivate my custom key or generate a new one.

No double license days here :'( , the new license has already started counting down, I should have kept the old one active instead, it never counted down o_O. It is all about being in the right place at the right time I guess!

The beta licenses never counting down couldn't be sustained forever. This way, you now have a real license that can be properly supported throughout our systems, rather than a temporary beta license which we're in the process of removing support for while we work through the P3-to-WSA upgrade transition.

Just wanted to say thanks to Webroot for this kind (and wise :thumb: ) gesture,
and decision to continue pre-release testing of WSA, as many of us here I believe hoped would happen.
I firmly believe we have much to look forward to, as we see the young WSA evolve to become stronger, and even more capable and comprehensive, to address future threats and trends :thumb: :)

:) By no means am I complaining, just commenting on PatG's post. The free license key was an awesome gesture, plus the original beta key was almost 10 months long (with no major problems)!:D How can anyone find fault with that?

UPDATE: Went ahead and ask Support how to activate unused $5 license. After giving the code to them, they credited me w/365 more days and all I had to do was reactivate original license! Take this, trjam: :D
