Rollback Rx on Bitsdujour

Rollback is on Bitsdujour today @ $24.15 for anyone interested.

 

Intriguing program but some of the negative feedback I've been reading regarding computer issues and poor customer service give me pause.

Hopefully some folks will chime in here with recent experience.

 

I've been using drive vaccine for a little while and like it. I'm wondering if rollback rx might be a better alternative at $24.95? Any feedback is appreciated.

 

I keep getting an error during installation that says "Update MBR failed" so the pre os interface won't function. Installation cancels at that point. I disabled MBR protection of appguard, also completely disabled appguard and tried to install in safe mode without success. Any suggestions??

 

Computer issues arise mostly when people don't understand/observe some of the basic guidelines in using RB. Their tech-support is ok, just a little slow, and there's very good user support here on Wilders and the Official Rollback Rx Forum. Seeing that you are an SD user, I might add that RB works very well in concert with SD.

You can think of DV as RB limited to a single snapshot. RB is much more versatile in that the number of snapshots is virtually unlimited and it allows you to not only rollback but also roll-forward!

Scott's remarks are right-on, and if you guys are still 'on the fence' about buying RB, this may help your decision process.

RB Pros: Near-instant snapshots, restore any snapshot in just a minute or two, great for testing apps, correcting user mistakes, retrieving older files, recovering from most system crashes, and $24.95 is the lowest price you will ever see for RB.

RB Cons: Slows-down system startup anywhere from 10 to 30 seconds (but no other operational slowdown), must uninstall or use 'Run switch' to defrag disk, special measures required to create an image-backup, and not inpenetrable to certain rootkits.

Something is preventing RB from modifying the MBR (which it must do in order to function). Based on your description I suspect it's Appguard, but if you actually uninstalled Appguard (completely) and the problem persists then it's got to be something else that's preventing RB to write to the MBR.

Thanks for the great info. So using something like SD and rollback rx is a good combo? What about adding appguard for mbr protection?

 

It is probably the MBRGuard portion of Appguard that is conflicting with RollbackRx.

Yes, SD complements RB (especially in that SD is practically impervious to rootkits), but I can't speak for appguard and judging from Arcanez's RB installation problem there may be an issue there.

No definitely not AppGuard. I figured out myself. You must install Rollback Rx to you system partition drive in order to get it work properly. Tried to install on my d drive which fails causing the MBR error message. Everything works fine now. Taking up only 6MB ram with 2 processes. I like it so far. Will use the program mainly to revert changes made by installations so I won't need an uninstaller or something like that

Yw Blues. Judging from your signature, I'd say you're already well protected. About the only thing that RB would add to your existing 'arsenal' is ease of testing/uninstalling apps.

I am also having the MBR problem. RB RX did not ask what partition it wanted me to install it on. It just did it's thing. When system boots up I see the RB RX icon in the tray for 10-15 seconds before it disappears. Can't uninstall as nothing showing in Programs and Features. CCleaner does not help. Prior to THIS install I had a trial version that presented no problems. Uninstalled it completely prior attempting this version....ugh. Does anyone know of a RB RX specific remover.

 

there is an uninstall.exe in the installation directory.

 

Would there be any reason to restore system on each reboot on a home PC that is used by multiple people?

 

Is this discount limited to one license and thanks.

Not there.....C:\Program Files. This was part of my problem.....but thanks.
Anyone else...I wrote them...still waiting for response.

 

I don't think so really. Programs like Drivevaccine or similar stuff should do a lot better when more than just one person uses the computer. Just my opinion.

When you start your computer, the first thing that you (should) see is a Rollback screen for a few seconds; press the 'HOME' key to enter the 'Subsystem Console'; using the up/down arrow you can select "uninstall' from its menu which will prompt you to select a snapshot to uninstall to.

Uninstalling Rollback on my Vista machine leaves a folder 'Shield' in C:\ Program Files which is very difficult to remove, it says I don't have enough rights. I don't know whether this happens to other OSs, but one way to get rid of it is to use a live Linux CD.

In C:\Program Files\Shield there's the uninstall.exe Arcanez was referring to.

 

I have been using RBrx for about month and I am very pleased. I have tried a few rollbacks and it has performed fine. My boot time has even improved by about 15 to 30 seconds.

I had been looking for a replacement for GoBack for a long time and RBrx seems to do the trick with no noticeable slowdown and very fast snapshots and rollbacks.

At $24 it is a steal!
