I wonder if the ID Vault was actually downloaded but not installed depending upon what you elected? Just a guess.

I'll shoot Greg an email and get the answer. I'll post as soon as I hear back.

I think that the answer is in the release notes:
    I could be wrong though.

As I surmised a couple of posts above, here's a direct quote from Greg Salvato I received via email:

    Hi bellgamin,

In Windows 7 Ultimate (32-bit) both PFW's Limited and DMR have the same effect -and for what it worths, so does OA's Run Safer.

Under Protected Admin account (UAC maxed out), Limited/DMRed(/RSed) Firefox is able to self-update: Help -> About -> Check for Updates -> Update is automatically downloaded -> UAC pops up asking for elevation of updater.exe -> "Yes" -> Firefox gets updated

Under Pure Admin account (UAC set to OFF), Limited/DMRed(/RSed) Firefox is not able to self-update: Help -> About -> Check for Updates -> Manual Update is required (An "Updates available at 3w.firefox.com" message is displayed)

On a related note, Limited/DMRed(/RSed) installers (i guess the same applies to any executable) that require elevated rights to launch are not able to so, even if, in the case of PA account (maxed out UAC), the elevation is allowed by the user through the UAC prompt.

Thanks for the info. I have copied it into my files for reference, in case I ever lose my mental acuity and update to Win7. :D

I am running XP & stay in Admin mode at all times except when DMR steps in. I use DMR with all my internet facing apps. DMR does not allow any changes to ANY exe by those apps it is controlling. And that is just the way I want DMR to operate.

I'm not sure if this is the right thread, but I have a question about PFW. After answering a few prompts for Firefox, some rules were created:
    [...]
Allow TCP (6) from local (1024-65535) to remote (443)
Allow TCP (6) from local (1024-65535) to remote (80)
    [...]
They are self explanatory, but now comes the problem: I tried to edit one of them and set port to * (any) instead of 80, and delete the other rule. That should allow TCP communication to any ports (including 80 and 443), but PFW keeps asking me over and over about Firefox, just like the general rule was not there. Any ideas why this is happening? Thanks.

    Hi,

    > Correct. It can only run in one account at any one time.

This can also be an XP style regular concern. Paltalk is security problematic and will keep working when you switch users. You do not want to lose anti-virus or firewall, else I will have to change my patterns of use.

Is this unique to PFW ?

Generally, I really like the firewall. My experiences with OA were quite good (2 yr pro superspecial), but the ESET regime is a tad more bureaucratic. Outpost free is satisfactory. A few others worthy of mention. However, I can see a general switch to PFW on my puters, since I am beginning to think that personal standardization is better. There are simply a number of tweaks and nuances to any firewall, it is hard to work with too many at a time.

    ==================

    Ok, read through the thread.
Post #331 seems to say this was fixed/improved, although a confirmation would be nice.

Seems to me, they also fixed that windows problem.
PFW always started with a fixed window size.
It had to be pulled to a larger size to read all columns.
After a restart it was the smaller default size again.
Now PFW seems to remember the last window settings :thumb:

As long as they don't fix the issue I mentioned in post #411 (and the occasional rule loss at startup), I don't feel the urge to try PFW again... I'm sure though, that they will fix it in time, and I'll give it a spin then :)

    Hi Folks,

Yes, I had a similar problem, I remember hitting yes to sequential ports. I did something, and it is not happening, but I am not sure what I did or if what I did is why it is not happening now :) . I may have given the program full power.

Many years ago I liked Zone Alarm, easy to use. Learned a bit, Kerio was fine. Online Armor has made a good splash, especially fine support at the time, and is now a type of techie niche leader. Outpost is always good, although not my personal fav. Today PF looks really good. A few years back, 2009, I was talking on the phone to a company that was in the process of being private labeled by Webroot, when WR needed a firewall. My notes say Personal Firewall from Privacyware, so this is dem (Maybe Greg?). Good to see that they have moved ahead so nicely. Does Webroot private label in their suite, or did they go another route ?

Overall, I am impressed. Since I am very much into a layered approach, a solid, well-supported free or inexpensive firewall with some HIPS always looks good. The message pop-ups are generally sensible. I did see that Eset-OA has (had, will have ?) one of their deals, one deal is 3 years (correction.. PCs) of OA for the price of 1. If it is still on, I will consider. With OA I more or less needed the professional version for port control. With PF it looks like everything is put in the personal, although there may be some pizazzes lacking. The difference seems to be that PF uses the Firewall as an entry point for enterprise and more intense products, so they do not strip out / leave out anything deliberately from the free. OA-Eset has forums, PF has the fine Wilder's response, both are good on that account. For now, free is best.

Thanks to Greg and PF for reinvigorating the firewall area. Right now I have on 2-3 puters, including my primary.

    Steven

    @Nebulus:

Have you tried to create a new rule (and delete the other two) instead of editing an existing one?

Yes. The first time I tried, I edited one of the rules and I deleted the other one. But the second time I created the rule from scratch. The effect was the same.

Running Windows Home Premium 64-bit Operating System.

When installing latest release I encounter this message :-

Error 1919. Error configuring ODBC data source PFLog Database, ODBC error 6: component not found in the registry. Verify that the file PFLog Database exists and that you can access it.

    Abort, Retry, Ignore.

Clicking on Reply gives the same message.
Clicking on Ignore allows the install process to proceed but does not give the option for Advanced Reports in the Firewall Log.

    How do I resolve this?

x 64 support much better in this release. Very good Keylogger and Screen capture protection. Still a little way to go on other areas but a big leap forward. Well done Greg/Privacyware :thumb:

    Cheers

Is it easy to upgrade an installation of PFW? Or I have to do a clean install every time there is an update? I'm thinking of trying it out :D
