Default virus database is app. 56 MB & full virus database is 159 MB?

What was the virus database in the previous version, default or full?

Why full virus database is not default? Dont we lose protection here?

    Default v/s full, info plzz?

    Best guess:

Minimal bases: Just install the virus definitions included in the installation package.
Full: Download the latest definition during the install.

Minimal --> You need to manually update the antivirus after installation
Full --> You do not need to manually update the antivirus after install

Autolearn: automatically configure unknown and known safe executables for access. Drastically reduce pop-ups after install. Ideal if installing on clean machines.
Max: Automatically configure only known safe applications from the ZA cloud database of safe applications.

Great add-ons into this suite! It seems (from the screenshot) that also CPchecker and CPswift can be activated now as well as automatic cleaning.

This is making the differences with retail products slimmer and slimmer....

It should be there, since it is mentioned also in the added items. If you installed on top of a non-toolbar installation then could be normal. If not, report it....

Why is already installed app saying that my product is up to date when its clearly not? Or is it realyl checking just defs and not a program version as well?

Probably because in beta testing the autoupdate is off. Normally this is the case on betas... they may turn it ON on a later build to test it works OK.

Looks the same (screenshot) as for retails... tough HIPS features are linked also to smartdefense and these may be limited? No idea. :)

I did a clean install & no toolbar here.

I dont like toolbar but I asked coz the changelog mention toolbar has advance download protection.

But I think they have removed the toolbar & its a mistake in changelog coz I didn't got toolbar but advanced download protection is there when I download anything.

I tested it & found it little problematic for average users as Behaviour Blocker or OSFW may trouble the average users.

During my test I got popups quite a few times "unusual dns query" & 1 other I dont remember now, both were mentioned as suspicious behaviour, and I found out that these popups even appears for safe apps, like I got these popups for VirusTotal Uploader, Sumatra PDF & VLC Media Player.

And the Advanced Disinfection is too annoying. It even pops up on rightclick scan & if selected Yes does a quick or full scan I dont know as I didn't performed it completely.

I installed the full database & checked the detection against Kaspersky but I didn't installed Kaspersky instead I used VirusTotal for crosscheck & the detection seems to be same but I checked with few malware. May be next time I will do a good check.

Few little quirks here, like exiting tray icon & again starting ZA an error was there & it couldn't be started, restart solved it. At times I got popup but it freezed, clicking allow/deny nothing happened but the system was working fine.

2 malware it detected in rightclick scan but when I executed them 1 was detected & treated but was still active in task manager & 1 I got suspicious dns query popup but no AV alert though this malware was detected in right click scan.

The browsing protection seems not good. I tried 40 malware working links & it blocked only 2.

Is the FW totally automatic in default state? Coz I remember when I used the Free firewall even with smart defense in auto mode & other too in auto mode I use to get few popups but with this I dont get any FW popups. And if I check the application entries in FW I find malware entries with 2 things for connections, set to auto & question mark for connections, but I didn't received a single FW popup.

1 malware on execution it detected & treated & asked for reboot, I chose not now. Anything opening was giving an error so I thought lets reboot & I rebooted the system, during reboot I got a blue screen with error something like windows couldn't find something or some windows error. I tried rebooting few times but the same error & I wasn't able to boot the system so I restored it with Comodo Time Machine.

I guess that was a pretty nasty malware or rootkit. I remember it was key.exe & I downloaded it from malwareblacklist website.

Will search for the same malware & test it against other products.

You will be a nightmare to any developer if this the kind of feedback you are going to give to them.... LOL :D

There is a huge mess on all sort of problems and issues. for which some of them may be by design some other not...

If you will feebdack the development team please try to split the feedback by issues (and relevance) and explain exactly how to replicate the problem. You must be able to replicate consistently the issue you are having. Otherwise the feedback, as it is, is likely to get into the waste bin. No offense intended... just that its really difficult to undertand what you are trying to do.

Btw, if you are doing tests with malware ensure that application control is set to MAX and not autolearn.

    Cheers,
    Fax
P.S. Toolbar only support IE and firefox (not sure which exact version since FF is updated very frequently).

    No specific intention good/bad here.

This is a beta & many users like to know how is it going, safe to try, etc.
So just info on that. And apart from that little test info how beta & its features are reacting here to know if anyone tested & faced the same so that I know not my specific system prob but may be a bug & I can collect the info for bug posting/beta feedback.

About the toolbar, I have IE 8, XP SP3 32 Bits, didn't got any toolbar but advanced downlaod protection is there.

And just for the info, I do any/all test on the above mentioned real system i.e no VMWare, with Comodo Time Machine installed, and mostly default settings of the products.

Don't take me wrong, I think the feedback would be very very very valuable for the development team if you manage to translate it in something more structured and systematic (i.e. usable).

IMO, as an input to users I found it less relevant, no security tool will survive with the flooding of malware as no tool can cover 100% of threats out there. What you are performing is what you typically see in youtube tests. Just a matter of time and/or been lucky by running the right malware rightly messing up the system. :)

So, if you want genuinely improving ZA and not just making the news try to perform the test in a bit more controlled way, so that you can find a pattern and replicability to feedback effectively the development team. Just a suggestion... feel free to ignore it :thumb:

On the toolbar: probably a bug unless other users can confirm that they see the toolbar. Or ask via the beta feedback form. I can't since I am not running the beta. Sorry.

Good luck with your malware testing and keep up the good work!

I post detection, etc but I didn't posted anything like that in my previous post.

I mentioned cross check with Kaspersky which is obvious & users would like to know if its using Kaspersky, how does it compare.

I mentioned the blue screen thing as the malware was detected & treated & ZA asked reboot. If the malware was missed I would have not reported.

Offcoz here I post the things generally. But I will do the beta feedback in a good format.

But I agree with you on some points & should not have posted few things here, as the product is beta & most important is beta feedback.

Thanxx for your comments. And I didn't took it wrong buddy. Well, I reviewed ZA, you reviewed me & in some way I reviewed you. So nothing here to take it wrong, right?:)

Probably a conflict with what you have installed... if it is all in the signature. Run you PC selectively to find the culprit...

    1.) Click Start -> Run
2.) Type MSConfig in the run box (or search box in VISTA/WIN7) and click OK (ENTER in VISTA/WIN7)
3.) Once in MSConfig, click the Startup Tab
4.) Remove the checks from everything except zatray and forcefield
    5.) Click the Services Tab
6.) Place a check in "Hide All Microsoft Services"
7.) Now remove checks from everything other than TrueVector Internet
Monitor and ForceField (if present), and click OK.
    8.) Restart your computer

If it works, slowly get back the unselected items by group of 3-4, starting from services and then moving to startup items. When found it then report it to beta team!

NOTE: You can place your computer back into a normal startup process by
going back into msconfig and choosing the Normal Startup option on the
    General tab.

I've been using this security suite for about 2 weeks without a hitch until yesterday. For some reason the identity and data module is not starting. This has happened on my win7 64 pc and win7 64 laptop. The button say's Fix now. It works when I click it. I'm only using the Web identity protections. Has anyone seen this?

    thanks
