Ctrl+Alt+Del is still faster and power users will already be used to using it for task manger, user switching, etc.

There is also Alt+F4 for shutting down. For task manager i just tend to right click on the taskbar or use Ctrl+Shift+Esc.

Wow... coming fast. I wonder how long they will allow new computer purchasers to downgrade to 7, assuming of course that they will allow it at all.

Saw the first time windows user (How real people will use Windows 8 ). I think Microsoft is forgetting that not everybody wants a tablet OS kludged to run as a desktop OS or is a computer geek. I bet Microsoft will field a ton of support calls unless they come up with some kind of demo video the first time the OS starts. With companies just starting to deploy Windows 7 in larger numbers, I cannot see this OS being deployed across the enterprise. IT would have a freaking nightmare. How is this OS going to make a company more productive? That is the basic question they will ask.

Here is another non-geek trying out Windows 8.

Windows 8 Consumer Preview - One word: fail

Some of you waited for this ... :)

Time for some super serious drama - a long, negative review of Windows 8 Consumer Preview, focusing on the loss of productivity and functionality with the removal of the classic Start Menu, additional degradation in performance, responsiveness, plus some other bugs. May the hating commence!

    Cheers,
    Mrk

Mrk's review is spot on. 2 versions of iE 10. The Metro attempt sucks. I am sorry I wasted
2.5 GB of valuable bandwidth downloading the 32 bit version to test in Vbox.
I wonder whether there will be changes in the final.

    PS. Viva Linux, Viva. :)

If your not a kid and don't use words like "awesome and cool" then Windows * is
the most disastrous piece of junk yet put out by Microsoft. Vista and Me pale
after this disaster. No business is going to use this. If Microsoft was not run by
a bunch of kids then they would be smart IMHO to put out another OS, call it
WindowsB8, for the rest of us. Do you think that will happenso_Oo_O?

For a company that developed something called BOB, don't think so. :)

Was calling Microsoft 8 in your post Microsoft * intentional? I think that pretty much sums up this disaster of a OS. But remember, we still get Windows 7 until 2020 and maybe beyond. This OS might not be bad on a tablet but for productivity across the enterprise, forget it.

So, Windows 8 removes XPDM support?

I know that XPDM device drivers can be used in Vista/7. I suppose it will no longer work in Windows 8.
Then, I suppose that I won't be able to get Windows 8, because it won't support my laptop's graphic card? o_O

Well, I'm not going to buy a new laptop/desktop just to run Windows 8, just so I can have some fancy graphics. WTF... I didn't buy one to get Windows 7. Windows 7 runs very well in this laptop.

If Windows 8 won't run due to not supporting XPDM, then for me it's a regression.

    This is stupid.

Windows 8 beta. People panicking over issues within the beta are stressing for no reason. There were features in Windows 7 that were gone in the dev preview yet returned in the consumer preview, there were features in the dev preview that were gone in the consumer preview. If you're improving a feature and the improvement doesn't work in time for a schedule you 1. remove it for a later release 2. revert it to it's original form.

For example, both UPnP and TPL updating is currently broken in the Consumer Preview. Does that mean they are being removed? Should I be worried that the next version of Windows won't support UPnP? Unlikely. For all we know XPDM was removed with the intention of not having it in the Windows on ARM distribution, but wasn't restored on the x86 distribution.
