I just started a restore 2 hours ago.
    The time remaining keeps increasing.
3 hrs. 27 minutes to go now.

There are 4 messages that indicate all is not well.

    Ex.:

    "Cannot set compress attribute for file"E:\disk_C\Program Data\{FABD...etc.}

    What is there to do?

The original drive is still operational, but says HDD failure in imminent.
    Thanks

Hi Jim. Regretably, that doesn't sound good.

Sounds like the backup image you are trying to restore may have been created when there were already some problems (logical and/or physical) with that drive partition. If so, those errors and any subsequent problems with that drive will have a cumulative impact on the restoration attempt.

Unfortunately, there are no easy answers at this point, especially as you've already begun the restoration process which will continue to attempt to re-write the entire partition on the destination drive. If it eventually succeeds, I can only suggest running chkdsk /r on that drive and doing another backup immediately afterward.

If you're lucky, you may then be able to replace the faulty drive and restore the "cleaned up" image to the replacement.

    Thanks for the quick response.
I was hoping for something like Drive Image XML. Easy and quick.
In fact I just started it.
I am copying drive to drive.
I didn't think it worked in W7 but maybe it does.

I did a backup a week ago when nothing seemed wrong at the time.
I can't say why it doesn't work, but .. I would not recommend it to friends.

I'm afraid you've got me completely confused. I understood that you were in the midst of trying to restore a backup image ("time remaining keeps increasing") at the present time. Now you say "I am copying drive to drive." Which is it?

And did you ever run chkdsk /r on the drive in question to test it for both logical and physical errors? If the existing drive does have problems, "cloning" it to another may not be a very good idea.

    I gave up on Paragon.
An image should be restored in 30 min or less.
That is the whole point of imaging. Quick complete recovery.

I have a Drive Image XML boot disk. I re-installed the bad drive and am giving that a shot.
