NIS is still well dependable for at least those 60 days. While I don't like seeing it go out from AV-C, its protection can't have dropped that much in the last few months. In other words, continue using NIS for those 60 days if you like it, there's no reason to panic.

    Hey IBK,

Please make sure that all the 20 vendors who got selected for 2012 testing MUST participate on Whole Product Dynamic test.

We are also waiting eagerly for a Android Mobile Review and Android Mobile Test for 2012

    Regards,
    Dark Lord

NIS is fine. There have been some disagreements in back and forth communications here between AV-C and Symantec reps at times regarding the value and signifigance of certain types of tests and their outcomes as conducted by AV-C and whether the product was being allowed to use all it's weapons to their potential. At least thats how I interpreted some posts that I saw.

Have you a source for that? The following was posted in 2010: http://www.pctools.com/forum/showthread.php?66248-symantec-engine&p=229971#post229971

You can find files in the PC Tools installation that are from Symantec:

    naveng32.dll
    navex32a.dll

Both are files that are part of Norton Antivirus AV engine. Oddly enough, with a recent program update (January 21, 2012) I have also been seeing "Suspicious.Cloud" detections from PC Tools. Traditionally the cloud scanners of the two products have been independent (which is probably why detection rates between the two products vary significantly, along with the fact that PC Tools does not have pulse updates but rather updates once a day), but perhaps that is changing.

I don't think Avast ever got top awards, but I've never seen them with such a low score. Even looking at the monthly results, they started out looking good last March, and went steadily to almost the bottom! :(

I've been using for several years because I've got an older computer and don't want a product that's bloated (T-Bird and FF take enough as it is). Oh, I just Googled and found an Avast forum where others are worried, but some are saying AV-Comparatives is being audited for faulty results . . . well, I'm still worried.

    Thanks.

I think the concerns of Minnetonka were addressed in avast forum by Vlk in the past.
Anyway, the same technical reason that AV-Comparatives posted is valid for avast and the Whole Product “Real World” Protection Test (WPT): "overall protection offered by a product". avast Web Shield and Net Shield are due to a lot of avast protection after all.

Thanks, Technical. I see my Avast version is up to 7 now and after reading all the comments on that particular Avast thread, I think it takes other perspective experience (such as each individual's results based on browsing habits) and of course, emphasizes the importance of having more than one layer of security. I run SAS every day and MAM several times a week. I've only had 2-3 detections in over two years. I think running NoScript too is a help.
