Is the consumer preview released at midnight tonight? Or is there no set time for the release?

I'm looking forward to installing Windows 8, I haven't got a touch screen though so I'm not going to feel the full benefit.

provided I can use winrar and MS Office on Windows 8 without problems it will by my main OS when I buy a new laptop with my tax return money. Is the consumer preview only available tomorrow? Will I be able to dl it from Microsoft in say, a week?

Look forward to seeing some user reviews.

Yes, it will be available to download for a long time. You will be able to run Office and Winrar (and most other software) just fine. If you are planning on installing on your new laptop, I suggest you save the Windows license that came with it, since the CP will be free (till Jan 2013). You can use the Win 7 license towards an upgrade or use it on another pc.

Actually if it is an OEM license you can only use it for the PC it was included with. :(

Stupid T1 at work. There aren't enough hours in the day left to download this. :( I guess reviews will have to do until I can get home to some real internet.

A T1 line used to be the holy grail LOL. Can't remember how fast (or slow) that is...I'm getting a sustained 1.2 megabytes per second downloading the ISO through my cable service at the moment.

It was in the days of dialup. I can pull about 150 kb if someone else is not sucking the bandwidth out of it. :(

I started the download to see how long it would take. The time remaining kept fluctuating between 6 and 9 hours.

Yeah, not worth it especially considering the danger of interruption/corruption partway through.

or the one mentioned in the FAQ: NF32V-Q9P3W-7DR7Y-JGWRW-JFCK8.

So much for full English language pack on windows 8. During the installation of the consumer preview the drop down box for display language only gives one option which is English US. I want Proper English.

It wasn't mentioned anywhere that it would be included in the beta.

I was hoping it would be available through Windows Update. Oh well.

By "proper English" do you mean the Queen's English? I can see you wanting that for the final product, but why make it a deal breaker for the preview?
